The variation in low speed impact strength on glass fiber/Kevlar composite hybrids

Abstract: The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of hybridization on impact and residual strength in composites as well as the types of damage caused by the impacts, quantifying the delaminated area of the test specimens. Two 11-layer composite laminates were developed, one with bidirectional glass fiber woven and the other a hybrid with three layers of bidirectional aramid fiber substituting the outer layers and the middle layer of the glass fiber. The materials revealed that the hybrid laminate obtained great… Show more

“…Esses tipos de danos também foram apresentados nos trabalhos desenvolvidos por Santos et al (2020) e Felipe et al (2019). Verificando-se a Figura 12, referente ao corpo de prova após ruptura no ensaio do compósito de PRFVCR 15%, fica explícita a presença de fissura matriz, de resíduos do processo, de desaderência fibra/matriz e de fissuração na matriz em direção ao material de reforço.…”

“…In relation to dynamic loads, one of the most common types is low velocity impact (LVI), since any part can be subjected to LVI during manufacture, service and maintenance. 14 Diverse studies have recently been performed on LVI in composite materials [15][16][17][18][19][20] in order to assess mechanical properties and new possible uses for glass fiber, aramid and carbon-based materials and the hybridization of these components.…”

“…Polymer composites are the most researched and used due to the large number of applications and a lower processing cost than other types (Santos, 2020). Among the polymeric matrices used for the production of composites, the polyester matrix has stood out due to its mechanical properties, low viscosity, high wettability and low cost.…”
