Theoretical and Experimental Study of Corrosion Behavior of Carbon Steel Surface in 3.5% NaCl and 0.5 M HCl with Different Concentrations of Quinolin-2-One Derivative

Abstract: A theoretical and protection study was conducted of the corrosion behavior of carbon steel surface with different concentrations of the derivative (Quinolin-2-one), namely 7-Ethyl-4-methyl-1-[(4-nitrobenzylidene)-amino]-1H-quinolin-2-one (EMNQ2O). Theoretically, Density Functional Theory (DFT) of B3LYP/ 6-311++G/ 2d, 2p level was carried out to calculate the geometrical structure, physical properties and chemical inhibition chemical parameters, with the local reactivity in order to predict both the reactive ce… Show more

“…Samples were allocated for microscopic examination after the completion of the coating operations, where cold basing operations were carried out on them and the smoothing and polishing process was conducted on them, then a microscopic examination was conducted to determine the thickness of the coating and the structures that appeared as a result of the coating 22,23 . As for the display process (Etching) It was done by using the revealing solution, which is a solution of ferric chloride FeCl 3 (5gm) and hydrochloric acid HCl (50mL) and distilled water 100 mm.…”

“…The most important of these materials are TiO2, ZnO, Al2O3, ZrO2…etc [3][4][5] , nanopolymers [6][7][8] , carbon nanomaterials (as reduced graphene oxide, graphene, and carbon nanotubes) [9][10][11][12] , drugs [13][14][15][16] , and environmentally friendly materials 17 all of which are reported. The second method that is used to reduce corrosion is the use of the so-called corrosion inhibitors 18 , which are chemical compounds, especially organic compounds (drugs or ligands; Especially ligands that contain nitrogen atoms [19][20][21] , such as Schiff bases [22][23][24][25] or other ligands [26][27][28][29] ) or nanoparticles 30 , that are added in small concentrations to the corrosion medium, they reduce corrosion by decreasing cathodic reduction or anodic oxidation, or both, by making a film on the metal surface. It is assumed that the adsorption of inhibitors on the surface of the metal is either through physical adsorption or chemical adsorption 31 .…”
