Three New Records of Gammarid Amphipod in Songkhla Lake, Thailand

Abstract: Songkhla Lake is known as the most popular area for gammarid amphipod studies in the Gulf of Thailand. The first gammarid amphipod study was investigated in 1925 by Chilton. After that, there are various studies including diversity, ecology, and biology. In this study, gammarid amphipod in Songkhla Lake were collected from year 2010 to 2014. In this study, three newly recorded amphipods had been reported namely Chevreux, 1911, (Giles, 1888), and (Hirayama, 1983) which had not been previously reported from the … Show more

“…Amphipods are one of the natural food that can be developed. Amphipods are benthic fauna that inhabit marine, fresh and brackish environments which are a central part of the mangrove ecosystem [9]. Amphipods have several advantages, including being able to tolerate various environmental parameters, reproduce quickly, and have a short life cycle which makes it possible to be developed as natural food in hatcheries and grow-out aquaculture [10].…”

“…Amphipods are a benthic fauna that lives in both marine and freshwater environments and plays a signi cant part in the ecology (Rattanama et al, 2016). Additionally, it has a su cient amount of protein and fatty acids, with a focus on healthful fatty acids such as DHA and EPA (Baeza-Rojano et al, 2014).…”

“…The impurity in SLB originated from urbanization, industrialization, and artisanal fishing since along the shore are urban settlements, fishing villages, shrimp ponds, seasonally flooded forests, and rice paddy fields. Biological studies of the SLB have concentrated primarily on the taxonomy and biology of a few economically important species [ 23 , 24 , 25 ]. The presence of chlorophyll a ( Chl-a ) content has been suggested as a reason for phytoplankton propagation, including cyanobacteria in water bodies [ 26 ].…”
