Towards a Modular System Dynamics Approach for Modelling Military Workforce Planning Problems

Abstract: Military workforce planning and management is increasingly drawing upon Modelling and Simulation (M&S) to enhance decision making. This project is to develop and validate an M&S approach suitable for modelling workforce dynamics ‘from cradle to grave’, offering end users a decision‐support mechanism which is intuitive to use and tailorable to any specific problem within the military workforce context. The project is based on multiple case studies where generic System Dynamics ‘building blocks’ (BBs) are progre… Show more

“…The proposed M&S development approach is based on the module-based translation of the BPMN design patterns into the systems dynamics building blocks. The process continues Jnitova et al 55 development effort of systems dynamics building blocks (minimodels) from the BPMN diagrams. It is also guided by the An and Jeng 21 business process and systems dynamics translation approach in supply chains, and by the Sunkle et al 56 approach to presenting and implementing translation maps.…”

“…Changes in products and processes have brought new types of industries, types of organizations, new ways of organizing work, new contractual relationships, new ways to connect buyers and sellers, and new ways to create and use market information. However, these changes in products, processes, enterprises, and markets are not the superficial economic trends that have changed the wheat business, but the fundamental changes caused by the powerful forces rooted in the economic system, showing a profound impact on the nature of the company and the characteristics of work, and the products and services we use and even those powers of the structure of daily life [10,11]. However, this design is more artificial, that is, to create or improve products through the description of the design task and the arrangement of the design structure.…”
