Towards an evaluation framework for information quality management (IQM) practices for health information systems – evaluation criteria for effective IQM practices

Abstract: Poor IQ is the result of complex interdependency within sociotechnical factors in health care organization and lack of formal and structured IQM practices. Thus, a feedback mechanism such as evaluation is needed to understand the issues in depth in the future.

“…That occurs due to the presence of the highest number of FBD notifications in the Southeast region. It is important to highlight that the low quality of data increases the number of errors in the decision-making process, reducing the attention level of the population health care [ 21 ]. The high percentage of the incompleteness of microbiological analyzes (above 96%), and specification of the etiological agent (rates above 98% of incompleteness) indicates that either no laboratory testing is being done or that the results are not being reported.…”

“…Several previous studies such as by [11][12][13][28][29][30] evaluated factors influencing information quality in the information system, while in [18,31] analyzed factors that influence information quality in document. It is vital to emphasize here that information needs to be viewed universally [1] regardless of its type and medium.…”

“…In [13] stressed that there are not many models or frameworks established for IQM. In fact, in [30] observed that existing models are not comprehensive enough as they do not incorporate individual, organizational, and technology factors. Due to the lack of references to characterize the IQM model, in [4] found that most organizations do not implement IQM efficiently and effectively.…”

“…Data quality in a hospital information system plays an important role in health policy-making. Low quality of the data increases the rate of medical errors and lowers the quality of care (1). Designing a structure for standardized data collection supports disease information management and leads to better quality of care (2).…”
