“…Artefacts of the Ølby burial, sword #273, neck collar #274 and belt plate #275 are highlighted. “…A significant group (marked) can, at the present state of research, only be defined, but not provenanced. The sheet-tubes (VM1680) from Vognserup Mose [ 8 ] and the octagonal-hilted sword MA-071206 [ 51 ] are highlighted, plotting an area where several Welsh deposits are present. The ore data are from: Hron Valley, Slovakia [ 27 , 28 ], Inn Valley and Buchberg, Alpine region [ 29 , 30 ], Italy AATV mining region [ 32 , 73 – 75 ].…”

“…Finally, we have a third group with octagonal-hilted swords of southern German origin, but also produced in Denmark by migrant smiths, as they employed a specific casting method different from that of the Nordic smiths (von Quillfeldt 1995; Bunnefeld & Schwenzer 2011). Like the warriors they do not have any of the paraphernalia of the ritual chiefs, and they share the same international distribution as the flange-hilted sword.…”

“…This fact is reflected in publications concerned with use-wear analysis. The corpus of studies on swords following Kristiansen's (1978Kristiansen's ( , 1984Kristiansen's ( , 2002 works is impressive (Bridgford 1997, York 2002, Quilliec 2008, Bunnefeld and Schwenzer 2011, Colquhoun 2011, Matthews 2011, Molloy 2011. In contrast, papers analysing use-wear on spears are scant (Schauer 1979, Anderson 2011.…”
