Traffic Reorganisation in Large Roundabouts of Vilnius and its Influence on Traffic Safety

Abstract: Historically, there are several large roundabouts in Vilnius with traffic organisation and safety problems. Vilnius City Administration initiated changes on these large roundabouts in 2016, by introducing new traffic organisation schemes and using relatively simple measures such as the line markings, safety measures and road signs. The aim of the research is to analyse the number of traffic accidents on the roundabouts before and after such traffic reorganisation. The article is based on accident maps in round… Show more

“…Table 6 and Figures 10,11 show the traffic efficiency of the proposed RA-DCCS and two benchmarks in the third type of experimental scenarios. We can observe that asymmetric traffic flow input will affect the optimization effect of the proposed strategy under the condition of similar traffic density of symmetric traffic flow input, but it is still considerable to improve the efficiency of the roundabout.…”

“…However, decelerate speed, merging, and lane change at roundabouts are the leading causes of bottlenecks that produce congestion. Significantly, the efficiency of the roundabout will diminish with the increase of the traffic volume, which means that the fuel consumption and travel time of vehicles increase [11][12][13].…”

“…As for what supports the economy in Jambi City, there are several shopping centers which in their category are large shopping centers, one of which is the Jambi Town Square Mall (Dahmiri et al, 2015;Putri & Triana, 2022). Where urban areas are often considered a source of additional traffic volume (Ben-Edigbe & Ramli, 2012;Grigonis et al, 2020).…”

“…As it can be seen from the current literature, signalized intersection capacity analysis procedures and methodologies are being continually reviewed and updated by many researchers from all around the world with the ultimate aim to prevent long vehicle queues and delays. In all studies, the general aim is to maximize the potential capacity of examined intersections to increase traffic-carrying capacity of intersections (Li, 2011;Ma et al, 2017;Grigonis et al, 2020).…”
