“… 19 However, high stability of the engineered silver sulfide nanoparticles (e-Ag 2 S-NPs) was observed after each phase of in vitro digestion. 20 As such, knowledge of the processes that influence the fate of NPs with food components/matrices or the GIT digesta is important to better assess the toxicity of NPs following oral exposure.…”

“…Pure Mn 3 O 4 and MnO were prepared under the same synthesis conditions as those for Mn 3 O 4 –MnO except that the calcination temperature of 350 °C was replaced by 150 °C and 550 °C, respectively. The Ag/Mn 3 O 4 #MnO catalyst was prepared by mechanical mixing, in which the synthesis of Ag NPs was carried out in accordance with the procedure developed by Li et al 32 The silver concentration of the prepared Ag/Mn 3 O 4 –MnO catalyst was 4.58 wt%, as confirmed by ICP-OES analysis. The preparation of the Ag/Mn 3 O 4 –MnO catalyst is illustrated in Scheme 1.…”

“…Moreover, sulfur in the forms of sulfide and thiols in biomolecules like proteins plays an important role in the sulfidation of AgNPs . Sulfuration can lead to a stable layer of Ag 2 S on the surface of AgNPs, thus preventing them from dissolving in digestive fluids. , As a result, the toxicity of AgNPs must be altered by sulfuration. For instance, van den Brule et al found that the aging of AgNPs in food, particularly sulfidation, reduced the effects of AgNPs on the gut microbiota in mice by limiting the release of toxic Ag + .…”
