Treatment of simulated wastewater containing toxic amides by immobilized Rhodococcus rhodochrous NHB-2 using a highly compact 5-stage plug flow reactor

Abstract: Biodegradation of toxic amides by immobilized Rhodococcus rhodochrous NHB-2 has been studied to generate data for future development of reactors for the treatment of simulated wastewater containing various toxic amides. The whole resting cells were immobilized in different matrices like agar, polyacrylamide and alginate. Agar gel beads were selected for the treatment of simulated wastewater containing 100 mM each acetamide, propionamide, and 10 mM of acrylamide and packed in a highly compact five-stage plug fl… Show more

“…NHase, containing either a non-heme iron(III) or noncorrinoid cobalt-(III) as cofactor, is composed of a and b subunits [3,[4][5][6][7]. Recently, nitrile hydratase has been commonly used for remediation of nitrile contaminated soil/water [8,9] as well as for the conversion of nitriles to useful chemical products [10][11][12][13][14].…”

“…Bacillus was inoculated into 50 mL of modified nutrient broth containing 5 g peptone, 1 g yeast extract, 1 g beef extract, and 10 g glucose per litre of distilled water pH 7.2 and incubated at 30°C for 24 h in an incubator shaker at 175 rpm (Chand et al 2004). These 24-h preculture were added to 50 mL of production medium containing 30 g tryptone, 15 g yeast extract, 5 g NaCl per litre of water, pH 7.5 followed by incubation at 30°C for 24 h in an incubator shaker at 175 rpm.…”
