Tribological Study of Fe–W–P Electrodeposited Coating on 316 L Stainless Steel

Abstract: Ternary iron–tungsten–phosphorus (Fe–W–P) coatings were electrodeposited with different sodium tungstate (NaWO4·2H2O) concentration on stainless steel 316 L substrate. These coatings were characterized by energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDX), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The friction and wear behavior of these coatings were investigated using ball-on-disk tribometer under dry conditions. This study reveals a nanocrystalline and nodular structure with nanometric grain s… Show more

“…The application of the lubricant minimized the tribo-oxidation phenomena [15]. Also, an increase in wear resistance has been obtained with the deposition of ternary Fe-W-P coatings [17,18]. Nevertheless, tribo-oxidation remains an important factor in the wear mechanism of Fe-W-P coatings.…”

“…The friction coefficient rises significantly to a maximum value in the first, or "transition" stage. It remains constant for the entire specimen during the second stage, known as the steady-state, with slight oscillations that may be caused by debris formed in the wear track 18 . Furthermore, it is clear in Fig.…”

“…HCWCI and heat-treated steel AISI P20 were underwent a tribological investigation using a rotating ball-on-disc tribometer. Based on the literature 18 , 19 , an alumina ball (Al 2 O 3 ) was used as a counter-body. In our study, an alumina ball with a diameter of 10 mm was chosen.…”

“…The aim of the electrolytical nickel coating was to enhance the adhesion between electroless Ni–P and Ni–B coatings and 316L. [ 22 ] This process was abbreviated as DC. In the electrolytic Ni coating process, 316L with 18 mm diameter and 2 mm thickness as cathode material and Ni plates in the size of 30 mm × 50 mm × 2 mm were used as anode material.…”
