The purpose of the study was to understand the effects of gender and age on anxiety, optimism, resilience and engagement in a group of older adults. An observational, quantitative, descriptive and transversal design was used with non-probabilistic sampling. Descriptive statistical analyses, reliability tests (Cronbach’s alpha) and linear correlation tests (Pearson’s) were performed, and the development of multivariate linear regression models was conducted. Female participants in the sample had higher levels in anxiety and pessimism, while male participants scored higher in optimism, engagement and resilience. Participants who practiced physical activity (PA) had better scores in optimism, engagement and resilience. The sample comprised 55.1% men and 44.9% women, between the ages of 51 and 93, with an average of 68.1 years, all participants completed the questionnaire Anxiety Scale-2 (SAS-2) the Revised Life Orientation Test (LOT-R) the short version of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale questionnaire (UWES-9) the short version of the CD-RISC. As for marital status, there were significant differences between single participants and romantic partner. Singles participants showed higher levels of anxiety than their married counterparts, while those in a relationship scored higher in optimism, engagement and resilience. The model was statistically significant F (9;352) = 14.6; p < 0.001, explaining 27% of the variance in optimism. The data indicated that PA practice and living with a partner in an inland area is associated with less anxiety, which may have implications for programs and activities designed for older adults.

Según algunos estudios experimentales realizados en España (Martín, 2011; De la Red et al., 2018), las y los trabajadores sociales conocen el código deontológico, pero no lo utilizan. En este sentido, Banks (2021) señala que la ética de las virtudes puede ser universalmente más aceptable que el enfoque actualmente predominante basado en los principios y derechos. ¿Podrían las virtudes solucionar el desfase existente entre las declaraciones y las realizaciones de las trabajadoras sociales? Frente a la incoherencia existente entre la moral pensada y la moral vivida, Adela Cortina plantea la ethica cordis, a través de la cual traslada la importancia de cultivar las virtudes morales. Por ello, el objetivo de este trabajo consiste en explicar brevemente la contribución de Adela Cortina, en una primera parte, y aproximarla al Trabajo Social en la segunda. Se ha utilizado una metodología histórico-sistemática. La novedad de este artículo radica en que es la primera vez que se realiza la aproximación de la contribución de Adela Cortina al Trabajo Social y que se plantea la necesidad de un debate interno en la profesión en torno al sentido y significado que deberían tener en España las virtudes morales que conforman su identidad.

Summary. The factors in the choice of musical instruments and how it influences and modifies the personality of the musicians are a common theme in research. However, less attention has been given to the formative effect of music on the character of music students, whose long-term commitment to acquiring professional competences as performers, teachers, conductors or composers can be examined using the research on Positive Psychology, which is mainly concerned with furthering people’s psychological wellbeing. This paper profiles the virtues and character strengths of a sample of eighty Spanish students completing bachelor’s degrees in music during the academic year 2016-2017, using the VIA Inventory of Strengths –free version (VIA-IS) (Peterson & Seligman, 2004) to analyse the respondents’ key strengths. The survey showed high scores in judgment and lower scores in self-regulation. The results were contrasted with samples of students in bachelor’s degrees in the social sciences.Resum. Els factors que contribueixen a l’elecció dels instruments musicals i la seva influència i modificació en la personalitat dels músics són un tema comú en la recerca. Tanmateix, s’ha posat menys atenció a en aspectes com l’efecte formatiu de la música en el caràcter dels estudiants de música; el compromís d’aquestes persones amb l’adquisició de competències professionals a llarg termina com a intèrprets, professors, directors o compositors pot ser examinat aplicant la Psicologia Positiva, que s’ocupa principalment del benestar psicològic de les persones. Aquest article estudia les virtuts i les fortaleses del caràcter d’una mostra de vuitanta estudiants espanyols cursant el grau en música durant el curs 2016-2017 amb el VIA Inventory of Strengths – versió lliure (VIA-IS; Peterson & Seligman, 2004) per analitzar les fortaleses clau dels enquestats. Els resultats van mostrar puntuacions altes en judici i menors en auto-regulació. Els resultats es contrasten amb mostres d’estudiants de grau en ciències socials.
