Untersuchungen zum Tanningehalt in Ackerbohnen

The effect of faba bean hull fibre on utilization of Fe, Zn and Cu was studied. The degree of binding these elements by the hull fibre was measured in vitro and their retention was determined in rats fed on diets without hulls (control) or with hulls either extracted with acetone to remove phenolic compounds (He) or extracted and incubated in a solution of sulphates of the elements under study (Hi). Incubation performed in vitro in conditions simulating those in the digestive tract (37°C, pH 2 for 5 h followed by pH 5 for 1 h) increased Fe, Zn and Cu content in the hulls by 36.6, 22.4 and 5.4 mg/1 OOg, respectively. The amount of fibre-bound elements in the experimental Hi diet corresponded to 40 % of the amount provided by the control diet.In the animals fed during 4 weeks on the control and experimental diets the total body Zn content was similar in all groups (4.5-4.6 mg/rat). The Fe and Cu content was smaller both in the rats receiving extracted and incubated hulls as compared with control animals (8.26 and 7.58 vs 8.59 and 0.51 and 0.48 vs 0.55 mg/rat, respectively). Small differences between the groups seem to indicate that in spite of the high sorption capacity of faba bean hull fibre in vitro, its effect on utilization of Fe, Zn and Cu in vivo was relatively small.

Metabolisable energy value of rapeseed meal and its fractions for chickens as affected by oil and fibre content

Low glucosinolate rapeseed meal (RM) was separated on sieves of 150, 270 and 450 pm diameter into 3 fractions defined as flour, bran and hulls. The fractions and rape seed oil were mixed in different proportions in order to obtain 25 model rapeseed meals differing in crude fibre 8.8, 10.3, 11.8, 13.2 and 14.7% DM and in crude fat 4.3, 6.3, 8.2, 10.2 and 12.1% DM (two-factorial design).The digestibility of nutrients and apparent metabolisable energy (AME N ) of RM, fractionated material and model RMs was evaluated in two balance experiments conducted on 154 broiler chicken aged 4 weeks. After removal of bran and hulls, the protein content as well as AME N value of the remaining fraction increased by 16 and 10%, respectively, in comparison with RM. Crude fibre content negatively and crude fat content positively affected AME N value of model RMs (P<0.01) according to the equation: AME N (MJ/kg DM) -10.78 -0.30 (% crude fibre) + 0.20 (% crude fat).

Nutritional value of field beans (<i>Vicia faba</i> L.) differing in antinutritive factors - rat assay

In two balance experiments true protein digestibility (TD) and biological value (BV) of field bean (FB) varieties differing in tannin, trypsin inhibitor and lectin contents were studied on rats using whole (Expt. 1) and dehulled (Expt. 3) seeds. ADF and NDF digestibility and growth performance of rats fed on diets containing whole FB seeds was also assayed in Expt. 1 and 2, respectively. All diets were supplemented with 2.5 g DL-methionine and 0.5 g L-tryptophane per 16 g N. TD was negatively correlated with tannin contents (r = -0.924, P ^ 0.01) while the correlation between BV and tannins was positive but nonsignificant. TD and BV of protein of dehulled seeds were not affected either by trypsin inhibitor or lectin contents. Negative correlation between tannins and ADF digestibility was significant only when one variety was excluded from the calculations. The digestibility of NDF was not affected by tannins. Feed intake, growth rate, feed conversion and liver and pancreas weight of rats did not differ among groups fed diets containing whole FB seeds having different content of antinutrients.
