User-Centric Radio Access Technology Selection: A Survey of Game Theory Models and Multi-Agent Learning Algorithms

Abstract: User-centric radio access technology (RAT) selection is a key communication paradigm, given the increased number of available RATs and increased cognitive capabilities at the user end. When considered against traditional network-centric approaches, user-centric RAT selection results in reduced network-side management load, and leads to lower operational costs for RATs, as well as improved quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) for users. The complex between-users interactions involved in RAT … Show more

“…Besides that, a machine learning (ML) method can be used by utilizing reinforcement learning techniques such as game theory, where reward and penalty on game player determine the most competitive optimum RAT [38], or deep learning approaches such as LSTM [39] [40], where particular decision parameters are predicted in the future and participated in the selection process. Moreover, the prediction of the mobility or the direction will determine the next position of the vehicle.…”

“…From those methods, the AHP is an easier decision-making technique to be used to evaluate the related criteria involved with the decision [15]. Pair-wise comparisons referring to criterions are performed based on 9-level scale in AHP process before generating normalized weights to each parameter by capturing experts' knowledge of phenomena under consideration As mentioned in [18], AHP is very often applied for deriving weights associated with network parameters.…”

“…However, distributed joint radio resource management (JRRM) mechanisms are gaining in importance -users may be allowed to make autonomous decisions in a distributed way. This has lead to game theoretic approaches to the network selection problems in heterogeneous wireless networks, as can be found in [10]- [13].…”
