Using structural equation modeling: patterns and trends of publications in Brazilian journals

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze patterns and trends of articles that present the use of structural equation modeling (SEM) and that were published in several Brazilian journals. In addition, this paper maps the institutions where the authors of the identified articles are affiliated, and discusses aspects of searching the articles in journals’ archives and other scientific databases. Design/methodology/approach The work used bibliometrics, which is one of the forms of evaluation and measureme… Show more

“…In addition, structural equation modeling (SEM) was performed to analyze the relationship between the latent variables (variables that cannot be measured directly). SEM modeling is generally employed in measurement and structural models (Rivera et al, 2018). The Sobel test was also conducted to determine the significance of the indirect effect by testing whether it was influenced by the mediating variable, which is an intermediate variable that can mediate the relationship between the independent and dependent variables (Sobel, 1982).…”

“…Recently, in a bibliometric review, ref. [129] analyzed 164 documents from Brazilian journals from the EBSCO and PROQUEST database during 1996-2015. They pointed out that the nearly 50% of publications (N = 82) used Amos, followed by 30% of articles using the SmartPLS (N = 31) and Lisrel (N = 19).…”

“…Next, other statistical applications, such as R packages (sem, Lavaan and OpenMx) [21,35], EQS, PROC CALIS (SAS) [35], ADANCO [25], EQS [130], Stata, DEA Warwick, EBTs, and EQS [129], have been discussed in the respective prior reviews. Some of the articles examined in this review did not describe those statistical applications.…”
