Background Antenatal care (ANC) and postnatal care (PNC) are critical opportunities for women, babies and parents/families to receive quality care and support from health services. Community-based interventions may improve the accessibility, availability, and acceptance of this vital care. For example, community mobilization strategies have been used to involve and collaborate with women, families and communities to improve maternal and newborn health. Objective To synthesize existing reviews of evidence on community mobilization strategies that strengthen support for appropriate and timely use of ANC and PNC. Methods Six databases (MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, PsychINFO, Cochrane Library, PROSPERO) were searched for published reviews that describe community mobilization related strategies for ANC and/or PNC. Reviews were eligible for inclusion if they described any initiatives or strategies targeting the promotion of ANC and/or PNC uptake that included an element of community mobilization in a low- or middle-income country (LMIC), published after 2000. Included reviews were critically appraised according to the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Checklist for Systematic Reviews and Evidence Syntheses. This review of reviews was conducted following JBI guidelines for undertaking and reporting umbrella reviews. Results In total 23 papers, representing 22 reviews were included. While all 22 reviews contained some description of community mobilization and ANC/PNC, 13 presented more in-depth details on the community mobilization processes and relevant outcomes. Seventeen reviews focused on ANC, four considered both ANC and PNC, and only one focused on PNC. Overall, 16 reviews reported at least one positive association between community mobilization activities and ANC/PNC uptake, while five reviews presented primary studies with no statistically significant change in ANC uptake and one included a primary study with a decrease in use of antenatal facilities. The community mobilization activities described by the reviews ranged from informative, passive communication to more active, participatory approaches that included engaging individuals or consulting local leaders and community members to develop priorities and action plans. Conclusions While there is considerable momentum around incorporating community mobilization activities in maternal and newborn health programs, such as improving community support for the uptake of ANC and PNC, there is limited evidence on the processes used. Furthermore, the spectrum of terminology and variation in definitions should be harmonized to guide the implementation and evaluation efforts.

Background Home visits by community health workers are promoted to improve the coverage and uptake of evidence-based newborn services and behaviours. However, evidence on the effectiveness of these home visits delivered through government systems at scale is limited, as is evidence from the post-neonatal period. From 2013 to 2017, the Government of India piloted an intervention called Home Based Newborn Care Plus with the goal of reducing pneumonia- and diarrhoea-related morbidity and malnutrition. Village-based Accredited Social Health Activists were incentivised to make quarterly home visits to infants between three and 12 months of age. After the pilot, the intervention was adapted and scaled up nationally (with an additional visit at 15 months of age) as a new programme called Home Based Care for Young Child. Methods The study used a quasi-experimental, difference-in-differences method to assess the quantitative impact on key outcome indicators by comparing changes over time in treatment districts with matched control districts. This was supplemented by a quantitative health worker survey and qualitative data collected at worker and community level. Results The intervention led to a significant increase in the number of home visits, and their content became more aligned with Home Based Newborn Care Plus protocols. However, absolute levels of coverage remained low. The intervention had no detectable effect on the key outcomes of feeding practices, handwashing, iron and folic acid and oral rehydration solution supplementation, growth monitoring, and immunisation. Conclusions Given the scale up of Home-Based Care for Young Child, there is a need to identify appropriate and comprehensive support for Accredited Social Health Activists to attain high coverage and quality and deliver impact. This will require reconsidering current design elements (such as incentives) and solving the underlying demand side and system level challenges (such as workload and supply chains) constraining Accredited Social Health Activists.

The research aimed to assess women's attitudes toward children from low and high socio-economic backgrounds. The study sample included 300 children, 143 women and 157 boys. This research used a quantitative method with a descriptive-analysis approach. Female children were given "General Information Forms" and "Scale of Family Life and Child-Raising Attitudes," The results were analyzed using the t-test approach and Analysis of Variance. After analyzing women's attitudes toward children by gender, it was discovered that there was no statistically meaningful difference (p > 0.05) at the end of the study. Women with a lower socio-economic background were found to be more protective, more resistant to women's positions, less fitting, and more stringent disciplinarians (p 0.001). It is well recognized that people with Overprotection Syndrome have a higher risk of developing breast cancer. When the relationship between women's behaviours was considered, it was discovered that there was only a clear relationship (p 0.05) between the aspects of women's strict control and other dimensions and a connection between all maternal sizes. The difference in mood is significant (p 0.001).
