Validation of inflationary non-invasive blood pressure monitoring in adult surgical patients

Abstract: Oscillometric determination of blood pressure may be advantageous, as cuff inflation requires lower cuff pressure and shorter duration than deflation. In this observational study, we compared the blood pressure value, cuff pressure, and duration of cuff inflation between a prototype of inflationary non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) and conventional deflationary NIBP in adult patients during anesthesia. Three hundred and twenty-three pairs of measurements were obtained from 64 subjects. The bias and precision … Show more

“…Meanwhile, the iNIBP is designed to detect oscillations slowly during inflation and reduce the cuff pressure at the time of detecting the systolic blood pressure. Thus, it requires lower cuff pressure and shorter time to detect blood pressure as compared to dNIBP [ 6 ].…”

“…We hypothesized that, compared with the conventional NIBP monitoring device, the iNIBP would measure the blood pressure faster, particularly when the blood pressure has suddenly increased or decreased. There have been two observational studies on the use of the iNIBP [3,4], but no studies on the accuracy of the iNIBP.…”

“…Evaluations of inflationary NIBP have been carried out previously for anesthetized patients in operating rooms 3 . However, inflationary NIBP has not been examined in a variety of patients with significant changes in the measurement conditions.…”

“…In patients who receive anesthesia during surgery, the inflationary NIBP has been shown to show a reasonable accuracy compared with conventional deflationary NIBP 3 . However, the use of NIBP monitoring using inflationary NIBP in emergency room patients with various unstable conditions has not been reported previously.…”
