Variable damping control strategy of a semi-active suspension based on the actuator motion state

Abstract: A semi-active suspension variable damping control strategy for heavy vehicles is proposed in this work. First, a ninedegree-of-freedom model of a semi-active suspension of heavy vehicles and a stochastic road input mathematical model are established. Second, using a 1/6 vehicle as an example, a semi-active suspension system with damping that can be adjusted actively is designed using proportional relief and throttle valves. The damping dynamic characteristics of the semi-active suspension system and the time t… Show more

“…[4][5][6] The semi-active suspension is extensively used in heavy vehicles given its low cost and simple manufacturing process. Most semi-active suspensions are realized by variable dampers, 7,8 and many control method have been used for the semi-active suspension of heavy vehicles. In 2012, Sulaiman et al 9 studied the semi-active suspension ground-hook (GH) control of heavy vehicles and found that GH control can effectively reduce the dynamic tire load.…”

“…Currently, most passenger cars and commercial vehicles in China are equipped with air suspension, ensuring the stability of automobile operation by controlling the airbag pressure of the air springs [1]. Electronically controlled air suspension for vehicle stability control can be achieved through shock absorber damping control [2]. Ding et al [3] proposed the LQR control method of vehicle active suspension based on the adaptive multipopulation genetic algorithm.…”

“…Therefore, the most important actuator is a variable-damping damper in the semi-active suspension systems. These dampers are classified into electrorheological, magnetorheological and solenoid valve types (Gong and Chen, 2020). In this study, magnetorheological(MR) damper type is modeled.…”
