Vitamin E extraction from red palm biodiesel by using K2CO3 based deep eutectic solvent with glycerol as hydrogen bond donor

Abstract: Abstract. Vitamin E has essential role in human body and it has high avalability in red palm biodiesel which encourages the development of separation technology to obtain this material. Deep Eutectic Solvent (DES) is the latest advancement in separation technology to extract vitamin E from it's source. in this research, Potassium carbonate (K2CO3) based DES with hydrogen bond donor (HBD) of glycerol was used to extract vitamin E from red palm biodiesel. The DES was synthesized at 80 o C for 1 hour at 300 rpm a… Show more

“…Eutectic solvents were proven very effective in the extraction of Vitamin E from red palm biodiesel. Manurung et al (2018) achieved a high extraction efficiency of α-, γand δ-tocotrienol from biodiesel using a DES of potassium carbonate:glycerol in different molar ratios, where the most effective molar ratio of potassium carbonate:glycerol was 1:6. [137].…”

“…The extraction of vitamin E from red palm biodiesel has been also addressed using eutectic solvents. Manurung et al (2018) [106] used solvents formed by potassium carbonate and glycerol at salt:glycerol molar ratios of 1:5, 1:6 and 1:7. The highest extraction yields were achieved in the extraction of γ-tocotrienol, δ-tocotrienol and α-tocotrienol from biodiesel using the potassium carbonate + glycerol eutectic solvent with a molar ratio of 1:6.…”

“…Researchers have investigated the development of DES. Manurung et al [17] performed a biodiesel purification process from vitamin E using DES K2CO3-Glycerol. DES-based ChCl-Glycerol is also used as a co-solvent in biodiesel production using KOH-catalyzed and ethanol solvents [18].…”
