Voltammetric Detection of Captopril on Graphite Screen Printed Electrodes

Abstract: We report the electrochemical detection of captopril on commercially available screen printed electrodes (GSPE); it exploits the silver residue left behind on a GSPE during its manufacturing process and involves the catalytic formation of the silver thiol complex (Ag++RSH→AgSR+H+) at potentials corresponding to the oxidation of silver. The oxidation of the silver thiol complex was found to vary linearly with the captopril concentration up to 0.8 mM. A sensitivity of 13.34±0.58 μA mM−1 is reported with a limit … Show more

“…In the presence of rutin and captopril, the current of the anodic peak at + 0.44 V vs. SCE was observed to increase (Figure 2, blue line). This catalytic effect [41] is attributed to the interaction between captopril and the flavonoid since, in the absence of rutin, the direct oxidation of captopril occurs at + 1.37 V vs. SCE (Figure 2, green line) [16,17].…”

“…On the other hand, methods involving electrochemical sensors are generally simple, rapid and low cost. In this context, a number of electrochemical methods have been described for the quantification of CAP involving, for example, graphite screen‐printed electrodes [33], cupric oxide‐ modified indium‐tin‐oxide electrodes [34], GCEs modified with graphene copper hexacyanoferrate nanoparticles [35], and multi‐wall carbon nanotube paste electrodes with a mediator [36] or modified with ferrocene‐based polyamide [37] or cupric oxide nanoparticles [38].…”

“…The coupling of a portable instrument and, consequently, miniaturization of the system is possible. The use of SPE has become an extremely useful tool for providing fast, sensitive, selective and low‐cost analyses in different electroanalytical techniques for the determination of many compounds . Recently, the use of SPE coupled to a batch injection analysis (BIA) system was proposed.…”
