Research has shown that transformational leaders are able, through emotional contagion mechanisms, to transmit their emotions and boost positive feelings among their followers. Although research on leadership and team processes have shown a positive relation between transformational leadership and workers' well-being, there is a lack of studies examining the “black box” of this association. The present study aimed to assess the mediation effect of team emotional intelligence (TEI) of the management team on the relationship between management's transformational behaviors and employees' responses. Data were gathered from two sources: 1,566 managers grouped into 188 teams pertaining to a total of 90 firms, and 4,564 workers from the same 90 firms. The results showed that management team TEI and the emotional state of “passion” among employees had a full mediation effect on the relationship between management teams' transformational leadership and employees' cohesion. Implications of these results are discussed.

Due to novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), the labor market is going to undergo a profound restructuring. The creation of a new labor paradigm by all stakeholders is essential. This document contributes to the current political and social debates about self-employment, the need for economic growth, and how these labor measures, which are deeply institutionalized, need a change of attitude for an adequate job reconstruction in terms of welfare and sustainability. Currently, policy makers are proposing actions and policies because the new labor paradigm is being designed in the countries of Latin America. This research aims to analyze the JDCS model (Job Demand-Control-Support) and well-being in the self-employed in Ecuador. Unlike previous studies, this research takes a comprehensive approach by considering this theoretical model and the figure of the self-employed in terms of well-being. The logistic model, using cases of more than one thousand workers, generated estimated results that indicate the existence of a significant effect of physical and psychological demands at work on the balance between well-being and the management of angry clients; the speed of execution; and the complexity of the tasks. Regarding labor control, the ability to solve problems and make decisions for the company are detected as influencing factors; finally, social support is another factor influencing global well-being for the self-employed. These results show that with an effective management of the self-employed labor environment, it is possible to achieve an adequate level of workplace satisfaction.

Impact of Co-Worker Support and Supervisor Support Among the Middle and Senior Management in the Manufacturing Industry

The purpose of the this research work was to evaluate the impact of social support (through its two dimensions: co-worker support and supervisor support) on the reduction of the burnout syndrome (considering its three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, professional efficacy, and cynicism) from two proposed models that show clear differences. Social support was assessed using the Job Content Questionnaire instrument, and the burnout syndrome was measured through the Maslach Burnout Inventory -General Survey. A total of 467 middle and senior managers from the Mexican manufacturing industry participated in the research. Structural Equation Modeling was used to determine the relationships between the proposed variables. The results of model one show that social support helps mitigate the effects of burnout syndrome in its three dimensions. On the other hand, model two features better fit indices and specifically shows that co-worker support has a direct negative relationship with the dimension of emotional exhaustion, while supervisor support directly and negatively affects cynicism. These results show that, although social support helps in the mitigation of burnout syndrome in general, each type of support separately has a direct impact on a specific dimension of the burnout syndrome. Clarifying these relationships will help in the proposal of occupational hazard management policies in the Mexican industrial sector.
