Wireless Sensor Networks for Road Traffic Monitoring

Abstract: Abstract-Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) consist of large number of sensor nodes. Each node is empowered by a communication interface that is mainly characterized by low power, short transmission distance and minimal data rate such as the maximum data rate in ZigBee technology is 256 kbps, while approximately the physical transmission range between 10 to 20 meters. Currently, WSN Technology is being distributed over a large roadway of areas, in order to monitor traffic and environmental data. This approach all… Show more

“…Therefore, the SVRCACO model is a promising alternative for traffic flow forecasting. In another approach the authors in [17] use a Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) consisting of a large number of sensor nodes. “…Based on visiting hospitals, it was approved of the effectiveness of this project and its ability to facilitate communication between the patient and his doctor. Utilizing the available services of GSM and GPS technologies to build a smart health monitoring system can improve and enhance the real time monitoring, where: GSM services are used for global communications any time and anywhere, GPS technology is applied for outdoor positioning, many works has been carried to use GPS and SMS for localization and reporting as stated in [17] [21] [4]. Figure 3 describes the flow chart of the suggested system, starting with reading the heart rate and body temperature by using specific sensors: pulse sensor and temperature sensor; the captured data will be compared via microcontroller i.e.…”

“…In a different line of research, several systems have been proposed within the field of traffic management and road safety that are based on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) [5][6][7]. Over the last few years, WSNs have been applied to a huge variety of scenarios due to their low cost, high scalability, and ease of deployment.…”
