Some strains belonging this group originated from animal sources, such as humans, fish or other terrestrial or marine animals (Phaff et al, 1952;Reiersøl, 1955;Novák & Vörös-Felkai, 1962;Galgó czy & Novák, 1965;Sugiyama & Goto, 1967;Hagler & Ahearn, 1987). We investigated the distribution of yeasts in deep-sea environments in the north-west Pacific Ocean (Nagahama et al, 2001a) and found that some strains isolated from benthic animals such as tubeworms or giant white clams were phylogenetically located within the Erythrobasidium clade.…”
