The study was undertaken to evaluate the quality of Dahi available in Sylhet Metropolitan City. Dahi samples from five different Sweetmeat Shops namely Fulkoli, Banaful, Mohanlal, Modhuban and Shad were collected and analyzed. Significant difference in chemical (protein, fat, total solids, ash, acidity and pH) and microbiological status was found among different Dahi samples. Of the five Dahi Brands examined, Fulkoli Brand Dhai had the highest protein content (4.58 ± 0.24) and Shad Brand Dahi had the lowest protein content (4.01 ± 0.17). Fat content was highest in Fulkoli Brand (4.02 ± 0.13) and lowest in Shad Brand (2.10 ± 0.21). The highest total solids content was found in Dahi of Shad Brand (38.00 ± 2.23) and lowest total solids content was found in Banaful Brand Dahi (32.02 ±1.50). Highest Total Viable Count (log cfu/ml.) was recorded in the Dahi of Shad Brand (5.92±0.09) and lowest Total Viable Count was recorded in Mohanlal Brand Dahi (5.84±0.06). Coliform bacteria , Yeast and Mould were present in all the samples. From this experiment, it was found that Fulkoli Brand Dahi was the best in quality . Dahi of Banaful and Mohanlal were in 2 nd and 3 rd position in quality.
A study was conducted to evaluate the chemical and microbiological quality of pasteurized milk samples belonging to five brands: Milk vita, Tatka, Farm Fresh, Aarong and RD milk. Pasteurized milk of different brands were collected from the retail store of Sylhet city and the laboratory examination was conducted at
The present study was conducted to investigate the seasonal effect on milk production and milk qualities of crossbred dairy cows at DGDF, Sylhet. For these purposes, the data of milk production and milk samples were collected from bulk milk tank at District Govt. Dairy Farm, Sylhet and their qualities were measured by physico-chemical and microbiological tests. The season has a significant effect (p<0.05) on the milk yield and milk quality. The total milk production was highest during the rainy season 3354.00 kg followed by summer 3116.70 kg while the lowest milk production was obtained in winter 2925.50kg. The chemical composition of milk was the lowest in summer 4.27% fat, 3.20% protein, 4.46% lactose and 8.55% SNF and in rainy 3.96% fat, 3.24% protein, 4.49% lactose and 8.53% SNF respectively and the highest in winter 5.30% fat, 3.18% protein, 4.46% lactose and 8.59% SNF. The season had a significant influence on the density and freezing point of the milk (p<0.05). The temperature of the milk varied widely from one season to another season. The temperature was maximum in rainy season 28.77oC while the minimum was 25.80 oC in the winter season. The salt percentage of the milk varied within a small range from one season to another season. During the winter season the average SPC bacteria count was lower compared with the other season, 38.02 ×105 cfu/ml. The highest value was obtained in rainy season 40.50×105 cfu/ml. Coliform bacteria count was on average 4.5×105 cfu/ml in winter, 4.91×105 cfu/ml in summer and 5.46×105 cfu/ml in rainy season. There was no significant difference compared to the value found during the other season. From this study it was found that season had a significant effect on the milk quantity and quality, except for protein, lactose, SNF, SPC and coliforms count.Bang. J. Anim. Sci. 2016. 45 (3): 52-57
One hundred eighty straight run day old Cobb-500 broilers were reared on rice husk, sawdust, wood shaving and chopped tea leaves litter up to 35 days of age. The broilers were fed ad libitum. At 35 days the body weight of chicken reared on sawdust attained the highest body weight (p<0.01) than other litters. FCR was the best on saw dust. The moisture content of different litters did not differ significantly. Oocyst population in rice husk was found to be higher (p<0.01) than those on other litters, except those reared on wood shaving. Moisture content of litters and oocyst population were positively correlated at 14 and 35 days and negatively correlated at 21 and 28 days of age. The litter cost per broiler and per kg broiler was the highest on rice husk (RH), intermediate on sawdust (SD), Wood shavings (WS) and the lowest on chopped fallen tea leaves (CFTL). It was concluded that it may be possible to minimize the cost of litter by using CFTL.http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/bjas.v41i1.11978
