This paper identifies climate change adaptation measures in the municipality of La Paz, Mexico, based on the results of previous vulnerability analysis. To prioritize the specified measures the GIZ methodology is used base don milticriteria and cost-benefit analysis. The study comprises the following stages, firstly policies and instruments suggested by the academic team, were discussed and slightly modified at a meeting with the representatives of La Paz Municipality. Secondly, a survey was applied to the main directors and employees according to the criteria provided by the GIZ methodology. Thirdly, a Public Consultation Forum was organized with the main stakeholders of La Paz municipality (NGO, Business, professional associations), where the adaptation measures were ranked by thematic and multicriteria approach. This stage complemented the multicriteria analysis and presented the measures that ranked in first places. The last step consisted in the cost-benefit analysis that provided a further ranking to the measures and specified the short-term adaptation strategy for the city of La Paz. The main areas of this strategy are the following: I. Hydric resources; II. Coasts and Tourism; III. Fisheries and biodiversity; IV: Urban Planning and Infrastructure; V. Environmental education and research. Finally, we present the adaptation strategy for La Paz municipality based on the prioritized adaptation measures.
Many studies highlight alternative tourism as a path for sustainable local development in marine protected areas. However appropriate tools to measure the sustainability of tourism development must be implemented. The case of our study is the Cabo Pulmo National Park, located in Baja California Sur, Mexico. The methodology applied is the IUCN sustainability assessment and an analysis of Strengths, Opportunities, Weaknesses and Threats (SWOT), based on a comprehensive review of statistics and documents, and on an opinion survey of the main stakeholders and key players. The analysis clearly shows that there are elements for sustainability based on alternative tourism. Nevertheless, to achieve this desirable model of development some constraints need to be overcome. Based on our analysis, we underscore the main points which should be taken into account in the process of policy making. Albeit oriented to the needs of a specific community, we think that these considerations should be of benefit in constructing sustainable development projects elsewhere, in similar small coastal communities with alternative tourism activities.
To improve the quality of the urban environment, it is important to analyze the patterns of placement of public spaces. The results obtained will help to create the framework of public spaces more correctly, including new and existing places of attraction for people.
The article is devoted to assessing the availability of the largest French overseas departments with tourist resources based on quantitative characteristics. The main approaches to assessing the provision of the territory with resources – component-wise and integral were considered. The algorithm for conducting the assessment, including techniques of both main approaches, was presented. The component-wise assessment was carried out according to three main blocks of parameters that reflect the availability of tourist resources in the territory: provision of natural facilities; provision with objects of historical-cultural heritage; provision of tourist infrastructure. Due (for the reason) to the heterogeneity of the evaluation criteria, which does not allow using absolute indicators, a point-rating approach was applied, which allowed linking the main characteristics of each department being evaluated together and conducting a component-by-component, and then an integral assessment. Based on the results of geo-information analysis a map scheme was constructed, which reflects the geolocation of the evaluated departments and the degree of their availability of tourist resources. It will allow tourism industry organizers to more effectively to direct their efforts and funds to the development of tourism in the overseas departments of France. The work was built using GIS.
