Gambus Misri art originates from the Islamic boarding school environment created by a Tebuireng student named Asfandi as a cultural response to the environment formed by Ludruk. Ludruk originally had a social background close to the community, took stories on the themes of family, village, struggle, and legends, then transformed into Gambus Misri art, which has an Islamic style due to the growth of Islamic boarding schools which are increasingly expanding in Jombang. However, the existence of Gambus Misri art does not change the presence of Ludruk art in the Jombang line of art. This qualitative research uses an ethnographic approach that discusses the transformation of the story in Ludruk into the tale of Gambus Misri. This research aims to show the influence of Ludruk art activities on the pesantren environment so that a new culture emerges. Using an ethnographic approach, this research will produce a study appropriate to the situation in the field. This research can become a historical reference material for transforming the story in Ludruk into the story Gambus Misri for the Jombang Regency Education and Culture Office.
