The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform used in the Islamic and Asian Civilization (TITAS) course is a transformation of new teaching and learning methods that increase students' interest to deepen their knowledge in civilization and current global issues. This study will measure the level of public university student's acceptance of perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and attitude towards the MOOC TITAS platform. The study employed a quantitative approach and was conducted among the first-year students in 19 Malaysian public universities by distributing online questionnaire instruments in the google form. The study used the purposive sampling technique and a total number of 1373 university students from five different zones (North Zone, Central Zone, South Zone, East Zone, and Sabah/Sarawak Zone) were involved as respondents. The value of Cronbach's Alpha for the pilot test was 0.972 and data were analysed using SPSS 25.0. This study found that public university students have a good level of acceptance of the perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and attitude towards the MOOC TITAS platform with mean value of 4.0. As a competent and effective platform, the MOOC TITAS platform corresponds to the online learning especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. MOOC platform also provides opportunities for students to have quick access to their lecture notes, activities and assessment regardless of time and location constraints.
This paper aims to explore the ideas and thoughts of Malik Bennabi on the issue of civilization, especially the Islamic world. At the same time, this article will identify ideas that can be taken as lessons from the ‘post-al-Muwahhidun’ according to Malik Bennabi. Besides that, it also discusses the situation of Muslims after the fall of the caliphate of al-Muwahhidun which he referred to as colonisabilite who have lost ‘spirit’ and ‘idea’. This situation is described by Malik Bennabi as in a state of stagnation for a long time. This paper uses the method of content analysis through inductive and deductive forms from Malik Bennabi’s books as primary sources and other related documents. In addition, historical analysis was also conducted to strengthen the arguments and findings of the article. The study divides Malik Bennabi’s analysis of the issue of ‘civilization’ into four main lessons. First, the issue raised is that Muslims need to understand the current phase of Muslims in the context of the cycle of civilization, second; reconstructing the culture, third the importance of education, science and ideas and fourth Muslims need to respond to the call of religion. The issues raised are seen as significant and relevant to the development and situation of Muslims today. Together, it needs to be understood and internalised to regenerate the glory and strength of Islam as achieved in the past.
This study aims to identify the problems of terrorism and insecurity in Nigeria and its attendant consequences on national development, highlighting the aggregate effects of the activities of the Boko Haram terrorists in the Northeast, Bandits in the Northwest, Militants in the Niger Delta, and Fulani Herdsmen across the Country. The qualitative and analytical methodologies will be used in order to explain in details the problems, issues and solutions to the problem of Terrorism and Insecurity in Nigeria. This research finds that the hydra-headed monster of Terrorism and Insecurity ravaging Nigeria in recent times occasioned by indiscriminate attacks razing from vehicular bombing, suicide bombing, sporadic shootings in densely populated areas, razing of police stations, churches, kidnappings of school girls and women; the invasion of farmlands, destruction of crops; rape, armed robbery, murder, destruction of oil facilities; and killings of travelers; by Boko Haram Terrorists, Herdsmen, Militants and Bandits across Nigeria, has resulted in the loss of incalculable lives and properties with a far reaching consequence on national economy and development. This has resulted in the decline in foreign private investments and FDI, economic redundancy and wastage due to attacks on oil facilities. It further recommends that the Nigerian government should quit playing politics with terrorism and seek International supports from Countries with prior history of terrorism, whilst empowering the Nigerian military with sophisticated weapons and adequate strategic surveillance to effectively combat insurgency.
Indigenous knowledge is a knowledge system uniquely belonged to a particular indigenous group. Indigenous knowledge is tacit in nature as its transfer is implied through actions or statements. It is inherited from generations to generations mainly by oral traditions such as folklores, traditional songs and dances, myths, and rituals. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the approaches in transfer of indigenous knowledge related to practices in biodiversity conservation among Dusuns and Bajaus. This study applied qualitative research design, which was carried out in Kota Belud, Sabah. Semi-structured interviews and focus group discussion were employed to collect primary data with six informants (n=6). The data was then thematically analysed with the aid of Nvivo 8. The findings of this study revealed that the transfer of indigenous knowledge occurred in collaboration with relevant parties, establishment of cultural sites, implementation of cultural law, and social events. In light of this, this study also discovered challenges that hindered the transfer of indigenous knowledge such as change of indigenous livelihood practices, change of religious beliefs, contact with dominant and non-indigenous groups, and economic development pressure. Finally, this study concludes with recommendations for comprehensive management of indigenous knowledge that supported sustainable practices in biodiversity conservation.
