This research and development aims to develop a contextual-based learning module for academic writing course to develop the students' writing skill. It adopts Borg & Gall's model modified from Jolly and Bolitho's model of development steps. The development steps include: assessing the teaching materials currently implemented, designing and developing the module, judging module feasibility by experts, and testing module effectiveness. It applies mixed method approach to describe textual data qualitatively and analyze numerical data using t-test. The data were obtained from need analysis through document analysis, interview, observation, survey, and experiment. The analysis found that the lecturers and students need appropriate, practical and effective teaching materials that meet their needs. Therefore, the module of writing teaching material is developed by integrating the seven components of contextual approach in various learning activities. Th epracticality test suggests that the module is very pratical. The feasibility test 82.27 in average confirming that the module is very feasible to develop. The effectiveness test found that it is very effective reflected in the posttest mean score of experimental class (78.10) that is significally different from the control class (69.80). The tests of practicality, feasibility, and effectiveness come into conclusion that the developed module can be implemented in the academic writing class. As suggesstion, the lecturers and researchers are recommended to develop comprehensively teaching materials aligning with the students' needs.
This article aims to describe the process of valid, practical, and effective problembased module development. The findings show that the module developed is valid, practical, and effective. This reflected in the results of data analysis, which indicate that the level of module validity was 86.564 (highly valid), the module practicality of the lecturer was 84.64 (highly practical), and the module practicality of the students was 83.8 (highly practical). The effectiveness of the module for student learning outcome was 80.2 on average with a very good (A) grade and the student activity was 80.4 (very active).
This research is aimed at identifying the use of picture media towards students class VII in writing foelk poetry in SMP Negeri 6 Kota Jambi. This research is quasi experiment. There are two classes used in this research, they are class VII A which consists of 35 students as control class and class VII B consists of 34 students as experiment class. Normality test, homogenity test are used in counting the mean of the result. Hte result of normality test from control class is Lcount = 0,9534 and in experiment class Lcount = 0,9629, while homogenity test is 1,38 and the test similiraity shows 0,162 bigger than significat = 0,05. It means that this research is homogen and falls into the same condition. The result of the research shows that the value of tcount =2,164 bigger that ttable= 1,99601with significant = 0,05 with dk 67. It can be concluded that picture media has a significant effect towards students class VII in writing foelk poetry in SMP Negeri 6 Kota Jambi.Key Word : picture media, writing foelk poetry
Abstract-The aim of this study is to develop a model of contextual-based semantics learning material. The need analysis was carried out by interviewing and surveying the lecturers and students. This Research and Development adopts the Borg & Gall and Jolly & Bolitho models in developing the materials comprising of the need analysis, material analysis of the current learning materials implemented, design and development of the learning material model, expert judgment, as well as the test of the effectiveness of the materials. Interview, observation, survey, and experimental methods were used to collect the data. The study applies mixed method approach to describe the textual data qualitatively and to analyze statistically the experimental data using t-test. The need analysis result showed that the lecturers and students require learning materials that comply with and involve in their daily lives. Based on the need analysis and the defined developmental model, the model of semantics learning materials was developed by integrating seven components of contextual approach in each learning activity. Effectiveness testing result shows that the model developed is highly effective. Referring to the findings, it is suggested that the lecturers and researchers should consider developing the learning materials that meet the students' needs.
