Since Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) is a very important navigator for the safety of seafaring, a cadet of Seafaring Polytechnic should learn it at class. Cadet should master how to use it properly to improve effectiveness and efficiency in seafaring. But, ECDIS only in the ship and training fee is very expensive. Seafaring Polytechnic need simulator like ECDIS, but can easily use in the class. This study reports the development of simulator that applying spherical triangle concept to determine distance and direction of the ship. RnD has chosen in this research. To ensure accuracy, we will compare the result of measuring with simulator and ECDIS. 51 cadets of deck department were asked to respond trial sessions of simulator. This investigation points out that the performance of this simulator tends to ECDIS with 0.072% error in measuring distance and 0.16% error in determining the direction of the ship. For the trial sessions, 85% cadets give a positive response and 87% pass the passing grade. These findings suggest that this simulator can be integrated into the marine learning process in the class. For the next research can be developed a simulator that used the map with marine traffic.
Calculation of ship operating costs is the main element in determining tariffs, since determining the high and low rates is very important in the shipping business. In other words, determining the right ship operating costs is the key to the success of the shipping business. Vessel operating costs are determined by direct and indirect operational costs. Direct operational costs include capital costs, insurance costs, insurance premiums, crew costs, fuel costs, lubricant costs, grease costs, fresh water costs, port costs and Repair, Maintenance, Supply (RMS) costs. The indirect operational costs include branch office costs and admin costs. Calculation of ship operating costs can actually be done manually, but it will take a lot of time. So, we need a way to calculate the operational costs of ships that are easy and efficient. In this study we developed an application to calculate ship operating costs. Then we call this application a simulator. From the simulations carried out, the results obtained that the results of calculations using the simulator are the same as the results of manual calculations, namely the total cost in rupiah. The advantage of this simulator is that it saves calculation time, so that the results obtained are easier and more efficient. In addition, the appearance of the simulator is very good in accordance with the demands of the digitalization of sea transportation and this simulator can be used by all groups because it is easy to operate.
The calculation of ship operating costs is a major element in determining tariffs. The determination of high or low tariff is very important in the shipping business. In other words, determining the proper ship operating costs is the key to the success of the shipping business. There are several components in determining the operational costs of a ship, one of which is the calculation of fuel needed to cover a certain distance. Usually for new routes, the calculation uses the formula specified by the Minister of Transportation No. KM. 58 of 2003. However, this manual calculation requires a lot of time and human error factors will result in inaccurate calculation results. So, we need a more effective and efficient way to calculate the amount of fuel needed to cover a certain distance. In this study, a simulator was developed that uses the concept of a spherical triangle to determine the distance and direction of a ship and then integrates it with the formula of the Minister of Transportation to get the results of the fuel calculation. From the results of 2 trials using the Bung Tomo Training Ship, the calculation results were faster and more accurate. Even more, the simulator users can simply click two points as the beginning and end of the ship’s journey. Thus, the simulator can simplify the process of calculating ship operating costs, especially the determination of new routes in the shipping business.
