<p>This experiment was conducted to study the activity, protein retention, daily growth rate, and production of Dendronereis pinnaticirris cultured in different soil substrates. Forty tested worms with average body weight of 150 mg were adapted in laboratory for 30 days. Thereafter, worms were cultured for 30 days in the 13.6 L aquaria and equipped with aeration system. A triplicate experiment was conducted using 10 cm depth of sterilized soil substrate with particle diameter of either 63‒250 μm, 250‒500 μm, or without substrate. The results showed that (1) D. pinnaticirris always swims actively when cultured in the medium without substrate, thereby resulting into the mass mortality (96.7%); (2) the substrate with particle diameter of 63‒250 μm generated significantly higher daily growth rate, survival rate, and production of D. pinnaticirris, but protein retention and feed efficiency were insignificance with those cultured in the substrate of 250–500 μm.</p><p>Keywords: substrate, protein retention, production, Dendronereis pinnaticirris</p>
Tingginya permintaan benih udang vaname saat ini menyebabkan munculnya banyak petani pengusaha pendederan backyard udang vaname. Pendederan skala rumah tangga ini banyak menyebar di seluruh tanah air. Kebanyakan mereka tidak membibitkan sendiri udang yang mereka pelihara. Mereka ini lebih memilih membeli bibit dari para pembibit udang vaname skala besar. Salah satu aspek penting dalam pengelolaan pembenihan udang vaname adalah pengelolaan pakan. Tujuan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah memberikan wawasan kepada petani pengusaha backyard tentang pengelolaan pakan larva udang vaname di backyard. Lokasi pengabdian di Kelurahan Talaka, Kecamatan Ma'rang, Kabupaten Pangkep, yang dilaksanakan pada tanggal 18 Juni 2022. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dengan metode penyuluhan dan diskusi terkait pemecahan masalah dalam pengelolaan pakan. Produktivitas pendederan udang vaname PL6 – PL19 di Kelurahan Talaka masih tergolong rendah karena tidak terpenuhinya persyaratan pemeliharaan mulai dari wadah, air, pakan, benih udang, dan penanganan hama penyakit. Petani pengusaha pendederan udang vaname masih perlu belajar teori dan berdisiplin praktik sesuai panduan. Petani pengusaha ini sangat tertarik dengan penyuluhan yang dibuktikan dengan kehadiran semua petani yang diundang dan banyaknya pertanyaan dari petani. Mereka mengharapkan penyuluhan berkelanjutan.
