Abstract. This paper presents the evaluation of distance continuing education courses in the Federal University of Ceará. To obtain information related to the course, an instrument for data collection was developed based on the methodology for assessing the effectiveness of teaching in the student's perspective. For data analysis, we seek to diagnose the quality of teaching in courses, identifying pedagogical factors that stood out positively or still need to be worked out by the best managers. The results indicate the feasibility of using the instrument developed, highlighting the students' opinion about 8 factors related to online tutors, presential tutors, course material and course participants themselves.Resumo. Este trabalho apresenta resultados de avaliação dos cursos de formação continuada a distância da Universidade Federal do Ceará. Para a obtenção das informações relacionadas ao curso, um instrumento de coleta de dados foi desenvolvido baseado na metodologia de avaliação da efetividade do ensino na perspectiva do estudante. Para a análise de dados, buscamos diagnosticar a qualidade do ensino nos cursos, identificando fatores pedagógicos que se sobressaíram positivamente ou que ainda necessitam ser melhor trabalhados pelos gestores. Os resultados apontam para a viabilidade da utilização do instrumento desenvolvido, destacando a opinião dos cursistas sobre 8 fatores relacionados aos tutores online, tutores presenciais, material do curso e aos próprios cursistas. Processes and evaluation methods are gaining prominence in the social and educational contexts. In this context, it is proposed to contribute to the improvement of the higher education quality, through the analysis of information obtained in six engineering courses offered by the Federal University of Ceará. The study seeks to strengthen the interface among data analysis methods typically used of engineering contexts in order to allow the analysis of the relationship between academic management processes of engineering courses and outcomes from external evaluations. This discussion aims to propose a mathematical model to support the academic management, based on multivariate analysis (MVA) and data processing, such as Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The instrument created aims to identify professors' point of view about the management practices developed in their academic courses where they work. The application of the reliability tests revealed the suitability of the sample for the application of PCA. In the PCA application, we observed the formation of three responses' clusters, that has been well characterized by the similarity of their factor loadings that are related to students' academic education, academic formation processes and institutional environment. It should stand out even that the application of MVA showed strong evidence for a relationship among the methods of management in higher education, through the manifestation of latent variables in order to define a mathematical model based on MVA academic management support.

Higher education in Brazil been expanding in recent years, although, one of the major problems encountered have been the evasion and failure rates in general courses and specifically in engineering undergraduate courses. In this context, educational evaluation, with the goal of diagnosing needs for improvement, can contribute to the quality of higher education, regarding some aspects such as teaching methodology, human interrelationships in the teaching profession and academic management, among others. This study is based on the analysis of the development and subsequent implementation of an assessment tool that would enable the analysis of academic and administrative expertise of academic management. The instrument consists of a list of 15 statements related to aspects of higher education management, where the target audience of the research are the teachers of 6 engineering courses at Federal University of Ceará (UFC), indicating their degree of agreement with the statements. For the analysis, a multivariate statistical tool called Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used. The results show the feasibility of PCA to analyze aspects of academic management, by explaining relevant information extracted from the latent variables of the data, which allowed us to identify a group of clusters related to management of higher education in engineering within the UFC. The study points to the use of this information in the future related to the contents of external assessments through more robust and detailed mathematical analysis tools.
Este trabalho apresenta a avaliação da qualidade do ensino online na perspectiva de investigar a problemática da evasão nos cursos semipresenciais de uma Instituição Pública de Ensino Superior. Para coleta das informações, utilizamos um instrumento de avaliação baseado na metodologia SETE. Os resultados apresentaram fatores que influenciam diretamente a taxa de evasão em um curso semipresencial corroborando com a literatura sobre o assunto, possibilitando intervenções pedagógicas afim de diminuir as taxas de evasão do curso.
