Science process skills are an ability to apply scientific methods in understanding, developing and discovering science. The importance of learning science process skills is to make students easier to solve problems in their daily life. The purpose of this research is to find out the science process skills profile of non-science undergraduate students. The object of this research is non-science undergraduate students in Universitas Negeri Surabaya. It’s using the descriptive qualitative method, and the data obtained from the questionnaire and interview. The result of this research is non-science undergraduate students didn’t accustom to analyzing a problem using science process skills. It’s according to the results of surveys and interviews that are less than optimal. Therefore, the conclusion is science process skills need to train to non-science students because it helps in solving problems in everyday life through a scientific fact.
The National Examination is for measuring the success rate of student learning at school and mapping the quality of Education in Indonesia. To fulfill the objectives of the National Examination, an instrument is needed to represent the standards set by the Indonesian government. This research is a qualitative study that aims to analyze National Examination Questions in 2017/2018 based on Bloom’s taxonomy and National Examination Questions Standard. Data collected by analyzing the samples National Examination questions in 2017/2018 using operational verbs in Bloom’s taxonomy and grouping topics based the standard. Based on the research, it was found that most question is in the applying cognitive domain (C3), that is, 35 %, when the least question is in the creating cognitive domain (C6), that is, only 2.5%. According to the National Examination Questions Standard, the most topic in the National Examination in 2017/2018 are “Force and Motion” and “Electric, Magnet and Modern Physics” with the same amount of 22.5%. The National Examination Questions Standard is too general in writing down cognitive levels and the topics that appear on the question.
Arguments are one of the important purposes in the modern era of learning because it is the basic step to promote student’s critical thinking process and science literature. This research aims to describe and analyse scientific argumentation profile of earthquake of non-science undergraduate student in Universitas Negeri Surabaya. This research uses a qualitative descriptive with the subject of research is 37 first-year non-science students from Universitas Negeri Surabaya. The subject asked to choose the right answer and write their reasons or arguments that support their answer. The results showed that the subject’s ability in providing scientific argument is at the level of providing claims with the support of well warrant.
A penumbral lunar eclipse phenomenon occurs when Earth’s outer shadow falls on the Moon’s face. This astronomical phenomenon is easy to miss because sunlight still illuminates most of the Moon. In this research, we want to describe the first-year undergraduate physics students’ understanding and awareness of Penumbral Lunar Eclipses, especially on June 5th, 2020. The study using qualitative research with a questionnaire and an interview. The subject of the course is 100 participants from first-year undergraduate physics students. Physics students’ answers are categorized into four levels, namely Dissatisfaction, Intelligible, Plausibility, and Fruitfulness. From the results, it can be concluded that physics students know with the Dissatisfaction category related to the phenomenon of the penumbra lunar eclipse. Otherwise, for knowledge about the strawberry full moon eclipse, students learn the intelligible and dissatisfaction types. It recommended that physics students increase their understanding of the occurrence of a lunar eclipse by understanding scientific processing skills to reinforce their opinion.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
