The Mandarin Language Education Study Program at the Universitas Negeri Malang routinely reviews the curriculum once a year. The learning curriculum is intended to develop and be relevant to the needs of students at all time. One way to be able to adjust the curriculum to the needs of students is to know the learning orientation of students studying Mandarin. Hence, the purpose of this study was to determine the learning orientation of third-year students of Mandarin study program at the Universitas Negeri Malang in learning Mandarin. The supporting instruments used were questionnaire sheets and interview guidelines. Data were analysed using the Miles and Huberman analysis. The results show that there were four learning orientations in Mandarin, namely learning Mandarin because it is an important communication tool at this time; it is considered to be easier to get a job; the popularity of Mandarin; and Mandarin can increase self-confidence. Based on this, the orientation of learning Mandarin for third-year students of Mandarin study program at the Universitas Negeri Malang was extrinsic and instrumental. This research is aimed to describe the process of implementing the Audiolingual method for Mandarin pronunciation practice by students of class XI MIPA (Mathematic and Natural Sciences) 3 at SMAN 6 Malang and the students’ responses to the applied method. The research was qualitative research using a qualitative descriptive analysis method. The data sources in this research were 17 students of class XI MIPA 3 at SMAN 6 Malang. Moreover, the researcher played the role as the main instrument in the data collection that was supported by other instruments such as observation sheets and questionnaire sheets. Based on the result, it can be seen that the learning process using the Audio-Lingual method ran well and smoothly. Besides, students also responded that the applied method could increase their enthusiasm and confidence in learning Mandarin language. In addition, the method might help them practice pronouncing Mandarin tones properly. Keywords: method; Audio Lingual; tone Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses penerapan metode Audio Lingual untuk melatih pelafalan nada kata bahasa Mandarin pada siswa kelas XI MIPA 3 SMAN 6 Malang dan untuk mengetahui respons siswa terhadap penerapan metode tersebut. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah proses pembelajaran dan siswa kelas XI MIPA 3 SMA Negeri 6 Malang yang berjumlah 17 orang. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti bertindak sebagai instrumen utama dari aktivitas pengumpulan data dengan didukung oleh instrumen lain berupa lembar observasi dan lembar angket untuk siswa. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, diketahui bahwa pembelajaran di kelas XI MIPA 3 dengan menggunakan metode Audio Lingual di sekolah itu dapat berjalan dengan baik dan lancar. Siswa menunjukkan respons bahwa metode tersebut dapat meningkatkan semangat dan rasa percaya diri mereka dalam belajar bahasa Mandarin. The purpose of this research and development is to develop a learning video based on the TikTok application on the mastery of Chinese HSK 2 vocabulary by adjusting the Chinese language learning theme for high school students in 11th grade, namely family and everyday life. This research and development uses the ADDIE model, which consists of five development steps: analysis, design, development and implementation The subjects in this study is students in 11th-grade of 2th Senior High School of Malang.. The product has been validated by media experts and has undergone small-scale trials and implementations. The data were obtained through a questionnaire validated by media experts, material experts, small-scale trials, implementation. The results proved that the video一起学习汉语 [yīqǐ xuéxí hànyǔ] (learning Mandarin together) based on the TikTok application could help students master Chines vocabulary and make learning Chinese vocabulary easier and more varied. From the result of media validation, materials, student questionnaires and video observation media based on the TikTok application, it is appropriate to use it as a medium for learning Chinese vocabulary. Keywords: development; media; video; TikTok; vocabulary Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian dan pengembangan ini ialah untuk mengembangkan suatu media video pembelajaran berbasis aplikasi TikTok pada penguasaan kosakata bahasa Mandarin HSK 2 dengan menyesuaikan tema pembelajaran bahasa Mandarin kelas XI SMA yaitu keluarga dan kehidupan sehari-hari. Penelitian dan pengembangan ini menggunakan model ADDIE yang memiliki lima tahapan pengembangan yaitu analisis, perancangan, pengembangan, implementasi dan evaluasi. Subjek uji coba pada penelitian ini adalah siswa lintas minat bahasa Mandarin SMA 2 Malang kelas XI. Produk telah divalidasi oleh ahli media dan ahli materi, serta telah melalui uji coba skala kecil dan implementasi. Data diperoleh memalui angket validasi ahli media, ahli materi, uji coba skala kecil, imlementasi dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa video一起学习汉语 [yīqǐ xuéxí hànyǔ] (Belajar Mandarin Bersama) berbasis aplikasi TikTok dapat membantu siswa dalam penguasaan kosakata bahasa Mandarin serta pembelajaran kosakata bahasa Mandarin lebih mudah dan berfariatif. Dari hasil validasi media, materi, angket siswa dan observasi media video berbasis aplikasi TikTok ini layak untuk digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran kosakata bahasa Mandarin.
