The politeness of a language is important in providing services such as services in tourism. In providing services in the tourism sector it is certainly important to provide good service as an example of using polite language so that tourists feel comfortable while enjoying tourism. Tourists in this study focused on tour guides, tour guides are one of the jobs associated with guest activities while enjoying their tours in Bali, guests need the services of tour guides to take them on a tour while on vacation in Bali. Ubud is one of the tourism areas that is visited by guests from various parts of the world. Thus, researchers chose the Ubud area as a research location. The tour guide in Ubud is the object of the study. At the first stage, the method used was observation method. In this case the researcher identified the conversation and explored politeness in the conversation between the tour guide and the tourist. At the second stage, the researcher identified the politeness of the language contained in the conversation. The next stage, the researcher used the method of observation, the researcher observed, examined gudiding conversations and examined politeness in English expressions used by tour guides.
The purpose of this research was to find out the problems in teaching tourism register in English Specific Purposes (ESP) class. Students are expected to know the tourism register as the new group of vocabulary and being able to use them in the related field. When the tourism register is implanted in the course, there were some problems appeared. By reading many literatures related to the topic, the problems can be investigated. It was found that there are some problems which influenced the teaching method in ESP class. The problems can be generalized into two main problems namely; the lecturer’s problems and student’s problems. The lecturer’s problems consist of ineffective teaching and learning method includes the design material which is not fit enough for some ESP students. The student’s problems are divided into the student English proficiency, lack of vocabulary, lack of motivation and basic skill in reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
Content and some elements related to a website are important parts for the website. However, the owners of the website sometimes are not aware of the content and those elements that actually could attract the reader. This study aims to describe the lexical cohesive devices supporting the keywords in the website domain, website title, meta keyword, meta description, heading, content, links, and image title. The data used were words, phrases, clauses and sentences found in the websites. In collecting the data, keywords everywhere and lsigraph.com were used to find the related keywords and the google monthly search (August 2018). Then the data were analyzed descriptively by distributional method. The theory applied was the theory of lexical cohesion proposed by Halliday. Finally, the result of the analysis was presented by formal and informal method. The result shows both reiteration and collocation were found in the tour websites. In brief, the use of lexical cohesive devices can be the first step in designing contents of website by optimizing the keywords.
Bahasa tidak dapat dilepaskan dari budaya sebagai cikal bakal bahasa itu sendiri. Dalam pembelajaran bahasa asing khususnya Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa kedua atau mungkin bahasa ketiga yang dikuasai, maka sangat penting untuk tetap menjaga kearifan lokal untuk keberlangsungannya. Pengabdian ini berfokus pada pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris berbasis budaya yang diberikan kepada siswa pada jenjang sekolah menengah pertama. Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran adalah dengan menggunakan metode komunikatif. Selain menggunakan metode komunikatif, pengajaran juga diberikan dengan menggunakan video ajar dengan harapan siswa dapat menonton video yang diberikan kapanpun dan dimanapun. Hasil dari pembelajaran bahasa Inggris komunikatif berbasis budaya adalah siswa yang awalnya kurang memahami kosakata yang mengandung unsur budaya ataupun kearifan lokal Bali menjadi lebih mengerti dan memahami setelah diberikan pembelajaran tersebut. Melalui pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang bersifat komunikatif siswa merasa lebih senang dan dapat memahami materi yang diajarkan dengan baik meskipun tidak bertemu atau bertatap muka secara langsung. Bahkan kegiatan ini memberikan nilai plus kepada siswa mengenai budaya Bali.
