Abstract. In designing a traction vehicle it is necessary to take into account the type of field operation it is meant for. It was found out that during shunting operation a ChME3 diesel locomotive is in idling mode for almost half of its general running time. That is why, the introduction of a less powerful engine along with an energy storage device for shunting operations at a shunting diesel locomotive is appropriate. The calculations were made using a modernized shunting diesel locomotive ChME3 with hybrid transmission of power as an example. The dependences of the general running time of a diesel locomotive on the position of the engine driver controller under performing shunting, transportation and hump operation were given in percentages. For every operation mode there was calculated the optimum power of a diesel-generator plant and the optimum energy capacity of an energy storage system taking into account the above-mentioned dependences. It was found out that due to the introduction of a hybrid drive for the section discussed above and the corresponding mass of a train the aggregate fuel consumption will be reduced by 25% and the efficiency of travel will increase by one third.
Abstract.The article provides an overview of software designed to perform the simulation of structures, calculate their states, and respond to the effects of loads applied to any of the points in the model. In this case, we are interested in the possibility of modeling the locomotive chassis frames, with the possibility of determining the weakest points of their construction, determination of the remaining life of the structure. For this purpose, the article presents a developed model for calculating the frame of the diesel locomotive chassis, taking into account technical, economic and other parameters.
Due to changes in the characteristics of the fuel equipment during operation, a considerable part of the life cycle of locomotive engines operate under increased fuel consumption, and thermal voltage, which often causes degraded environmental performance and reduced engine capacity and, as a result, low efficiency of the locomotive. A reserve for improving the performance of the diesel plant and the diesel locomotive in general is the implementation of measures to prevent changes in the characteristics of the fuel system, for example, the development of clean-in-place technique of fuel systems from carbon deposits. In order to determine the effectiveness of such measures, it is necessary to apply new quality control methods of fuel atomization. The article offers a more informative method for evaluating the quality of fuel atomization, which can be used in locomotive depots during research and development work. The method consists of microphotography of the drops of sprayed fuel followed by microscopic analysis and processing of the results using special software. It is proposed to process the results of injectors testing using a statistical method, taking into account the parameters according to the Rosin-Rammler dependence for the relative total curve. As a result of the work, it became possible to develop requirements and implement technical improvements to the test stands for fuel equipment of diesel locomotives.
The contribution presents a modification of a goods wagon bogie frame. Every newly designed or significantly modified any support part of a railway bogie must meet strict criteria related to its strength and fatigue life. It presents key changes of the structure of an original goods wagon bogie frame, conditions and results strength analyses for unfavourable load cases, for which values of load forces come out from valid standards. The introductory part presents the original goods wagon bogie and the idea of its modification. In the next part analyses of structural properties (modal and stress analyses) are introduced. Simulation computations were carried out using Finite Element Method. Further, main load cases which all bogies must meet before commissioning and conditions for bogies approval are described. In simulation calculations a goods bogie frame was loaded in compliance with standards by four unfavourable load cases.
