Background During the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare professionals (HCP) might experience mental health problems and work-related stress, which can lead to less satisfaction at work and decreased health and quality of life in the long period. This study aims to explore the role of mental health and workplace satisfaction on the quality of life in health professionals who are involved in handling the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods This study was a cross-sectional approach using purposive sampling techniques. The online survey was conducted from May through September 2020. A total of 200 respondents from the West Java province in Indonesia were included. Data on mental health, work satisfaction, and quality of life were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and multivariate regression analysis. Responses to open questions regarding concerns and strengths were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results An increased mental health symptom experienced by healthcare professionals was associated with decreased health status (β=−0.724, p=0.001) and self-perceived health (β=−0.59, p=0.001). Further, serving patients with COVID-19 (β=−0.133, p=0.024) was related to lower health status. Five themes emerged regarding concerns about being exposed to COVID-19, namely 1) fear of transmitting the virus, 2) the impact of COVID-19 on family life, 3) death and isolation, 4) personal safety, and 5) social stigma. Five themes emerged regarding the source of encouragement and strength, ie. 1) religiosity, 2) social support systems, 3) the moral responsibility of the profession, 4) following health and safety protocols, and 5) acceptance and positive attitudes towards the future. Conclusion Mental health problems impacted the quality of life. Serving patients with COVID-19 could predict lower health status. HCPs’ concerns and sources of strength when exposed to COVID-19 are discussed. Our results give a better understanding of the factors that can decrease and improve HCPs’ quality of life, therefore can be used to design psychological interventions to lower HCP’s psychological problems and improving their quality of life.
Penelitian-penelitian terdahulu menyatakan terdapat proporsi mahasiswa S1 di Indonesia yang mengalami masalah kesehatan mental. Beberapa studi sebelumnya juga memperlihatkan hanya sebagian kecil mahasiswa dengan masalah tersebut yang mencari dan mendapatkan bantuan. Hasil survei daring awal pada mahasiswa S1 menunjukkan hambatan urutan pertama dalam mencari bantuan adalah rasa takut atas judgement dan pandangan negatif dari lingkungan sosial yang dijelaskan dengan konsep persepsi stigmatisasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah persepsi stigmatisasi berhubungan dengan intensi pencarian bantuan kesehatan mental pada mahasiswa S1. Penelitian ini adalah studi cross-sectional yang melibatkan 480 mahasiswa S1 di kota Bandung yang direkrut secara daring dengan menyebarkan tautan survei melalui media sosial. Perception of Stigmatization by Others for Seeking Help (PSOSH) digunakan untuk mengukur persepsi stigmatisasi dan intensi pencarian bantuan diukur menggunakan Mental Help Seeking Intention Scale (MHSIS). Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif dan korelasional. Sebanyak 64.8% mahasiswa memiliki derajat persepsi stigmatisasi yang besar sementara 54.8% menunjukkan tingkat intensi pencarian bantuan kesehatan mental yang tinggi. Hasil uji korelasi menghasilkan tidak terdapat hubungan signifikan antara persepsi stigmatisasi dan intensi pencarian bantuan kesehatan mental, r (478) = .053, p > .05. Berdasarkan hasil dari analisis data dapat disimpulkan bahwa persepsi stigmatisasi tidak berhubungan dengan intensi pencarian bantuan kesehatan mental pada sampel mahasiswa S1 di kota Bandung.
There were breast cancer patients who undergo a traditional treatment. The aim of this study was to describe the contributing factors in traditional treatment decision making. Five breast cancer patients were recruited from online survey, cancer community and traditional treatment clinic. Respondents filled demographic and clinical characteristic form and also interviewed. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. The result of this study was most of the respondents put more trust on traditional treatment therapist rather than doctor. Most of them undergo a traditional treatment because they perceived the benefits from the treatment. Family member suggested they to undergo a traditional treatment. There were several factors that contributed to participant’s decision to undergo a traditional treatment; ie (1) the view about health care provider, (2) the perceived benefit from the treatment and (3) the source of recommendation about the use of traditional treatment.
Purpose The use of mHealth has great potential to overcome many barriers in healthcare and become powerful tools to promote health. We developed Jaga Sehat (“Stay Healthy”), an Indonesian version of the mHealth app which was created as a form of health education for the general population. The current study aimed to test the usability and acceptability of the Jaga Sehat mHealth app. Patients and Methods A total of 113 dentistry students who participated in the first-year initiation program at a state university in West Java, Indonesia were recruited. Participants were asked to download, use the app and complete an online questionnaire. Open response questions explored participants’ recommendations for future improvement. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze participants responses, and content analysis was carried out to analyze open-ended responses. Results In general, participants perceived that Jaga Sehat mHealth app was useful, well-designed app, functional, and easy to use. We found that most of participants gave positive feedback and considered it as having high usability and acceptability. Conclusion Participants reported that Jaga Sehat mHealth app was functional, easy to use and have a good design. The language and material were clear and easy to understand. The app could encourage and help them lead a healthy lifestyle; therefore, they would recommend this app for others.
This study aimed to assess the perception of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) information provision and the health protective behavior as potential factors of feelings of anxiety and happiness among the general population in Indonesia during the outbreak. We conducted an online survey using snowball sampling techniques. The online survey collected information about demographic data, information provision of COVID-19, health prevention behaviors, and feelings of anxiety and happiness. This study involved 3,686 participants in Indonesia in the period from 2<sup>nd</sup> of April to 4<sup>th</sup> of April 2020. We found that the most frequent source of information reported was social media. The majority of participants were satisfied with the amount of information provided (98%), however 54% of the participants reported that no information or very little information about the screening/test and the treatment of COVID-19 was provided. The most frequent protective behaviour was implemented cough attitude, avoided handshake, and applied physical distancing. High exposure of Information about COVID-19 and doing preventive measures were associated with greater anxiety. Nonetheless, some preventive measures appeared to be positively associated with feelings of happiness. Our results give an indications about the information provision, application of preventive measure and the factors associated with feelings of anxiety and happiness.
