Carcinoma cervix is the most frequent malignancy and the highest cancer mortality rate in women worldwide as well as in Indonesian. From 4.290 of cervical carciona in Indonesia , 1.326 cases were found in Surabaya. Over 70% patients were in the advanced stadium. Pap Smear as a screening test is a prevention strategy for carcinoma cervix. Sex worker has a high risk for carcinoma cervix. This research was carried out in Gang Dolly Prostitution Area Surabaya aimed to describe the characteristics of sex worker and the correlation between knowledge level and participation in Pap Smear examination. A cross sectional approach was conducted with 67 respondents. The variables: characteristics, knowledge level and pap-smear participation was measured by open and close-ended questionnaire guided by the researcher. The data were presented as cross tabulation and further testing the correlation based on Lambda Correlation test (α = 0,05). The results showed an equal proportion of good and sufficient knowledge and only limited respondent (2,99%) who have very poor knowledge. 89,55% respondents have had done their Pap Smear examination, from those mostly were respondents with sufficient knowledge (41,79%). There was a weak and not significant correlation between respondent's knowledge level about carcinoma cervix and their participation in Pap Smear examination (Lambda Correlation test, Lb = 0,286, approx. sig. = 0,151).
During the mental development process, the adolescent will be exposed tonumerous events that might act as psychosocial stressors. These stressors might contribute to the prevalence of depression in adolescent. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of depression description of psychosocial stressor, and the relationship between psychosocial stressors and depression in adolescent. A cross sectional descriptive analytic study was conducted using 458 particiapants from three representative Senior High Schools in Malang district. The depression level was measured using Beck Depression Inventory while Holmes and Rahe Stress Scale for Youth was used to mesure the level of psychosocial stressor. It was found that prevalence of depression were as follows 32,5% of respondents with mild depression; 28,2% with moderate depression; and the remaining 11,1% withsevere depression. Of all particiapants, 59,6% experience a high level stressor, while the other 40,4% have low level stressor. The study identify a significant correlation (p<0.001)between depression level and level of psychosocial stressor. . The risk of having depression is 5.87 higher in respondents with high level of psychosocial stressor compare to those with low level psychosocial stressor (OR=5.87). Therefore, a cooperation between school, community and parent is highly advised to provide a favourable environment for mental development in adolescent. In addition parents, school need to prepare the adolescent in order to anticipate numeros events that influence their mental health.
The incidence of children with autisme spectrum disorder has rapidly increased, starting fom 1:1500 in 1987 to1:100 in year 2001. The parent's motivation for actively being involved in treatment programs, such as consultation with the expert and improvement of their knowledge will increase the treatment success up to 80%. Therefore it is of paramount importance to identify the parent's motivation and knowledge about Autisme treatment as a baseline for improving parent's active involvement. A cross sectional research design was carried out using twenty parents (mother/father or both) as responden is in Autisme treatment center: A-Plus' Dharma Wanita PUNM Malang District from15 April -31 May 2003. The parents motivation and knowledge level was measured using close ended questionnaire. In general, autisme is mostly identified in male child (55%), first child (45%)and diagnosed by children specialist or psychiatrist (75%) at the age of 0-2 year (75%). Most of the parents (85%) have a high motivation in gaining children healing but 60% parents have low knowledge level about Autisme treatment with mass media as the main information source (85%). There is no significant relationship (p > 0,05)between parent's motivation and knowledge level.
