ABSTRACT. The infusion of ozone into the inflamed quarter of cows with clinical mastitis was performed and the efficacy of ozone therapy was evaluated. Ozone was infused into the inflamed quarter via a teat canal using ozone gas generating equipment. Nineteen Holstein cows with acute clinical mastitis were divided into two groups: 15 cows treated with ozone therapy, and 4 cows treated with antibiotic therapy. Systemic and local clinical signs, California Mastitis Test scores, the mastitis causing pathogens, electronic conductivity of milk, and somatic cell counts in milk from ozone-and antibiotic-treated quarters, were compared between the groups. Sixty percent (9/15) of cows with acute clinical mastitis treated with ozone therapy, did not require any antibiotics for recovery. This newly developed ozone therapy method was proven to be effective, safe, and cost effective, and carries no risk of drug residues in milk.
ABSTRACT. In this study, we investigated whether ozonated autohemoadministration (OAHA) influences leukocyte populations in cows with clinical inflammatory disease. Eleven cows with inflammatory disease (Inflammatory Group) and three healthy cows (Control Group) were used for this study. The CD4 + /CD8 + ratio in the Inflammatory Group increased significantly compared to that in the Control Group 3 to 4 days after OAHA treatment. In the Inflammatory Group, the number of CD14 + cells decreased gradually after OAHA, but CD14 + levels remained stable in the Control Group. The number of MHC class-II + cells decreased gradually in the Inflammatory Group, but increased gradually in the Control Group, and the difference between the groups was significant on day 14 after OAHA. These findings suggest a possible difference in the activation of immune response after OAHA in infected cows compared to healthy cows. ABSTRACT. Changes in subsets of peripheral blood mononuclear cells and lymphocyte blastogenesis reaction were observed after ozonated autohemoadministration (OAHA) in calves. Ten healthy calves were used in this study. After OAHA, CD8 + cells, CD14 + cells and WC1 + cells increased (p<0.05). The level of lymphocyte blastogenesis stimulated by PHA decreased after OAHA. A significant increase in serum IL-6 activity was observed in OAHA calves. These results suggested that OAHA induced immunological changes in calves. SUMMARYOzonated autohemotherapy was applied to 27 cows with incurable ananastasia and dysstasia due to arthritis, laminitis, post dystocic neuroparalysis and Downer syndrome. Seventeen of 27 (63%) treated cows recovered showing obvious lentitive effect and smooth standing action as well as significantly decreased levels of serum GOT and CPK activities.
