This paper explores perceived gaps between corporate needs and the availability of skills and attributes among the talent pool of the Malaysian services sector. In Phase I of the study, 169 human resource managers from service companies were surveyed. They were asked to indicate (1) the importance of skills, competencies and characteristics for the service workforce, and (2) the ease of recruiting those with such work skills and talents. In Phase II, focus group sessions and interviews were conducted with 37 Malaysian managers, yielding a qualitative summary of industry needs and talent pool shortages. Findings indicated a gap between industry needs and the availability of important competencies within the pool of prospective workers. Individuals with competencies in communication, information technology and customer relationship management, and those with high motivation and career commitment were most sought by service industry employers.
This study examines an amplified unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) in the context of eGovernment to get a better understanding of users' behaviour towards eGovernment. Two hundred and six respondents (206) participated in the study and the data was analysed using structural equation modelling (SEM). The study revealed that Performance Expectancy, Risk Taking Propensity, Attitude towards Computer and Web Trust dimensions are essential precursor of behavioural intention of Malaysians towards eGovernment. The study further suggests that policy-makers can increase eGovernment usage by creating applications that meets expected demands and needs of the people with provision of trust facilitating environment and security conditioned systems.
Ever since international emergence of the Internet, huge amounts of money have been invested on e-Government globally. Nevertheless, many African countries have recorded unsuccessful eGovernment initiatives. Optimal results are not exclusively dependent on technological innovation but combination of technologies and active participation of citizens. There is plethora of qualitative discussions on eGovernment with inadequate substantial quantitative study on the influence of trust on the adoption of eGovernment services in African developing economies. The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) and the Web Trust model was integrated to investigate citizens' intention to use eGovernment services. Data relating to the constructs were collected from 310 respondents that participated in this study. Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectation, Facilitating Conditions and Trusting belief emerged as significant determinants of intention to use eGovernment services. Lastly, practical implications of the results are reported with discussion for further studies.
