The sensiti vity to radiation and thermal annealing of a number of salts of the trisethylenediamine cobalt III eation have been compared with their retentions when neutron irradiated under the same oonditions. No simple relation between these quantities has been found. The effect of dehydrating the irradiated hydrated chloride is to produce almost complete retention.Zusammenfassung Die Strahlenempfindlichkeit und thermische Ausheilung einer Anzahl von Salzen des Trisäthylendiammin-Kobalt(III)-Kations wurden bei konstanten Bestrahlungsbedingungen mit den Retentionen verglichen. Es konnte keine einfache Beziehung zwischen diesen Parametern gefunden werden. Entwässerung des bestrahlten wasserhaltigen Chlorids führt zu fast 100%iger Retention.

The determination of the dipole moment of polar molecules in solution has been a standard experiment in many physical chemistry laboratories, and is described in many laboratory texts.1'2 The experiment can be done by bridge methods or by heterodyne-beat approach.3 In both cases the cost of equipment used, while relatively large, was not considered as an important factor. Nowdays however, due to inflation and Department budget cuts this is not so any more. We propose a method of direct counting which has the advantage of low cost, simplicity, and precision; moreover its functioning is more easily understood by the students than that of the classical approach.
