Users who have access to a mobile device have increased in recent years. Therefore, it is possible to use a mobile device as a tool which helps to users in their daily life activities, not only for communication. On the other hand, augmented reality is a growing technology which allows the interaction with real and virtual information at the same time. Mixing mobile devices and augmented reality open the possibility to develop useful applications that users can carry with them all the time. This chapter describes recent advances in the application of mobile augmented reality in automotive industry, commerce, education, entertainment, and medicine; also identifies the different devices used to generate augmented reality, highlights factors to be taken into account for developing mobile augmented applications, introduces challenges to be addressed, and discusses future trends.
Rural economy has been characterized by low incomes and self-consumption production. With the expansion of global markets and the access of customers through internet, the possibility of moving traditional markets to e-commerce increases. This expansion allows the inclusion of rural economy into the e-commerce market. This chapter describes the challenges to be overtaken in order to activate rural economy through e-commerce. The chapter is organized in five sections: The first section focuses on the communication infrastructure available in rural areas. In the second section, the current state and challenges to be addressed for guaranteeing on time delivery are presented. The third section describes payment methods. The fourth section presents schemes of organization required into the communities to guarantee the quality of products. Finally, marketing, advertising, and social networks are discussed.
Photography is a document that reflects a visual testimony of political, scientific, social and cultural events of humanity, plays an important role in the conservation, transmission and visualization of such events. This work presents the design and implementation of a gallery to generate photographic collection of Teotitlán de Flores Magón through the collaboration of the population. The objective of this application is to remember and show the past to the new generations through a collective memory based on photography. The development of the software was done using the PHP language, the MySQL database manager and the view-controller model that allows a better organization of the application code, which facilitates the maintenance and updating of the application by the developers. The evolutionary process methodology was used in this project, all its stages were carried out to obtain a better software. The evaluation of usability with several users showed beneficial results with respect to satisfaction, efficiency and effectiveness metrics.
Native languages are part of the cultural heritage of humanity, for this reason it is important to rescue and conserve them. This paper presents the design and implementation of an interactive book using augmented reality, which contains text in Spanish and in the Mazatec language variant of Huautla de Jiménez, Oaxaca; This material isused by teachers of the bilingual elementary school Ing. Jorge L. Tamayo, who provided feedback to developit, the topics that are included makere ference to the family and their activities in the community, food and animals. The development of this resource was made with Vuforia and Unity 3D and the UCD methodology, for its operation the user puts the camera of his mobile device on the images of the book, the application detects and identifies the marker and displays 3D objects and reproduces the audio of the pronunciation in Mazatec of the text related to the image. For the tests, two usability evaluations were conducted. The tests reported a 100% effectiveness, a 9.5 acceptance, there was an average of 5 seconds ahead of the estimated time for the completion of tasks.
In the healthcare field, plenty of clinical data is generated every day from patient records, surveys, research papers, medical devices, among others sources. These data can be exploited to discover new insights about health issues. For helping decision makers and healthcare data managers, a survey of research works and tools covering the process of handling big data in the healthcare field is included. A methodology for CVD prevention, detection and management through the use of tools for big data analysis is proposed. Also, it is important to maintain privacy of patients when handling healthcare data; therefore, a list of recommendations for maintaining privacy when handling healthcare data is presented. Specific clinical analysis are recommended on those regions where the incidence rate of CVD is high, but a weak relation with the common risk factors is observed according to historical data. Finally, challenges which need to be addressed are presented.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
