This research was conducted to explore the relationship between formal mathematics and Lingko, a system of traditional agricultural land distribution in Pocoleok, Manggarai-NTT Regency shaped like a spider web. Lingko was interesting to study concerning mathematics because of the philosophical values contained in Lingko and the Lingko sharing ceremony. This research focused on two things, namely: (1) how the distribution of ulayat land, Lingko, was mathematically reviewed while still paying attention to cultural values, and (2) how the community practiced mathematical concepts in the distribution of Lingko. The first focus of the problem was to uncover the mathematical activity of the distribution of ulayat land, Lingko, which was unknowingly carried out by the Pocoleok, Manggarai peoples. Knowledge gained from this first study might produce a new approach to learning mathematics, both from a mathematical or mathematical education perspective. The second focus of the problem sought to reveal the extent to which the basic concepts of Manggarai culture (following understanding) to solve mathematical problems faced in the reality of life. This second study provided more space for cultural-based mathematics learning, namely how to comprehend mathematical concepts based on contextual issues that arise in Manggarai culture.
Connection between mathematical content and the cultures of learnersin mathematics education should be acknowledged and explored. Thisresearch, conducted using a qualitative research approach, withethnographic methods, explored the relationship between formalmathematics especially geometric patterns and Motifs of ManggaraiEthnic Woven Fabric, known as Towe Songke in Cibal, ManggaraiRegency, a rural area in East Nusa Tenggara Indonesia. Total 3weavers of the age ranging from 20 to 40 selected based on theirweaving knowledge and communication skills. Data were obtainedthrough interviews, observations, field notes, and documentations. The research resulted in how mathematics learning on subjects such as geometry and geometry transformation was associated with the local cultural context of Manggarai. This study identified the line symmetry and the effect of geometric transformations (translations, reflections, rotation, and reflection) of several motifs in Towe Songke. Most of motifs which are found in Towe Songke forms Frieze Pattern F7 because these motifs can be seen as translation, horizontal reflection, vertical reflection and half turn rotation symmetry.
ABSTRACT:The research is conducted to describe many problems in life, in the short story of Kompas 2012, to find the forms of their expressions, and to find their relevances for character education. The kind of research used in the study is qualitative-descriptive supported by the teory of sosilogical literature, semiotics, hermeneutics, stylistic and character. The research reveals that the short story of Kompas 2012 presents ten main problems, namely, religiosity, work ethic, ecology, ethics and morality, family, politics, culture, gender, education, and security. The indirect expressions of problems are through metaphors, allegory, rhetoric, climax, repetition, paradox, personification, parallelism, symbolism, irony, cynicism, tautology, and comparison. The values that are found in the short story of Kompas 2012 relate to the values that will be fulfilled in character based curriculum.
This study aims to describe the ellipsis construction or removal of language elements in the discourse about corana virus diseases (Covid-19) in the Kompas newspaper opinion column. The discourses analyzed were sourced from Kompas opinions published from March to April 2020. The method used in data collection was the refer to method (read), which was applied through the note taking technique. The stages of data collection in this study, namely the inventory, identification and classification of data. The method of data analysis in this study is the agih method, which is applied with the technique of fade and replace for direct elements. Stages of data analysis in this study, namely reduction, interpretation, presentation, and discussion of the results of data analysis. The results of this research data analysis show that the ellipsis construction in the discourse about Covid-19 in the Kompas newspaper opinion column consists of the subject ellipsis, the subject ellipsis as well as the predicate, and the object ellipsis in equivalent (coordinative) compound sentences. Meanwhile, the ellipsis compound compound (subordinate) occurs in the function of the subject, both in the child clause (clause) and in the parent clause (parent sentence). Both in equivalent compound sentences and in multilevel compound sentences, the elements in each function are written in words both cataphoric and anaphoric.
