SUSTAIN (Sustaining Development in Early School Education 518321-LLP-2011-TR-COMENIUS-CMP) project is focused ondeveloping key competences on children aged 5 to 12 years, required in the context of education for sustainable development. Our investigative approach aim to show that education for sustainable development, inserted into the formal education systemat the various disciplines or as a distinct subject -can generate a change of mind-set, can generate the competences needed to create a safer world, a healthy social environment in which quality of life is an essential axiological reference.
ABSTRACT:Carnosic acid and similar compounds exhibit antioxidant behavior in a polyethylene matrix. Thermal resistance of LDPE was investigated at three temperatures (190, 200, and 210°C) by isothermal chemiluminescence. The main kinetic parameters: oxidation induction period (t i ), half oxidation time (t 1/2 ), maximum oxidation time (t max ), and propagation rate of oxidation (v ox max ) were calculated. The inhibition of thermal degradation is proved by the values of these parameters relative to unstabilized polymer: the induction times of stabilized low density polyethylene are of one order of magnitude greater that raw polyethylene, and half oxidation periods are three to five times longer than initial LDPE. Thermal aging of protected low density polyethylene occurs at a much slower rate in comparison with unmodified LDPE. The depletion of stabilizers was also evaluated and the kinetic characteristics (the half-life and the rate constant of consumption for each antioxidant) at three concentrations of all tested additives (0.125, 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75% w/w) were determined. The effectiveness of stabilization was depicted by two values of activation energies calculated from oxidation induction times and maximum oxidation periods. Some considerations on stabilizing mechanism are presented.
Even the concept of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) has not been clearly explained in the scientific literature, it is more and more frequent used, being promoted in the European Union policies and programs in Science and beyond. According to the Horizon 2020 initiative, launched by European Commission in 2014, RRI underpins several European projects and represents one of the current images of the connection between Science and Society, in the EU vision. Anyway, one of the targeted issues is related to make a transparent engagement of all the societal actors in research and innovation aspects, through promoting science education and facilitating the access to scientific knowledge. However, at the global level, RRI has implications on designing and implementing research and innovation policies that lead to: hiring the society in research and innovation; increasing the access to scientific results; ensuring gender equality in the research area; providing an ethics of researcher / research, and in compliance with current laws relating to ethics; promoting science education at formal and non-formal levels.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
