The focus of this research is crisis management in the education sector during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was done following an atmosphere of crisis in the field of education that encouraged the Indonesian government to issue policies in the form of the Study from Home (SfH) crisis programme. The object being analysed is related to the application of crisis management and the communication experience of students during the programme. The purpose of this study is to describe the opinions of students during the crisis programme. The study was conducted in the city of Bandung by involving lecturers and students. The methodology used is a qualitative approach to phenomenological studies. Data collection was conducted through online interviews and literature studies. The study found that the government established SfH as an emergency learning programme during the COVID-19 pandemic. The implementation of SfH was through online learning using various chat and video conference applications. There were two weaknesses of online learning namely technical and communication weaknesses. Technical weakness is influenced by geographical factors, internet networks, and internet costs. While communication weaknesses include slow adaptation, learning media are not optimal, and an interactive atmosphere has not been developed, and there is no atmosphere of empathy. This situation results in lecturers not being able to manage the learning effectively. Studying online during SfH should be able to build collaboration classes to be able to foster motivation and interest in student learning. Collaboration classes are realised when lecturers and students try to improve communication competencies.
Abstract. Since reformation era, the Indonesian mass media had a fundamental change that made Indonesian mediascape and brought Indonesian people becoming the straitmedia society. The journalist had a role as information collector that decided whether the mass media where their work qualified or not. Besides that, it still many things that becoming a problem in journalism and mass media, and one of them is ethical problem. Some questions about the professionalism of the journalist had asked. For answering that questions, the writer tried to research it with descriptive and qualitative approach. Through long interview and observation in 30 journalist in Bandung, the result showed that professionalism could divided into four group that are autonomy, commitment, skill and responsibility. During the implementation of four variations in real activities, it had obstructed lots of problem that interfere journalist duty. Key words: profesionalisme, bandung journalismAbstrak. Sejak era reformasi, dunia media massa Indonesia mengalami perubahan mendasar. Perubahan tersebut dengan sendirinya mengubah mediascape Indonesia yang membawa masyarakat Indonesia menjadi masyarakat yang sesak-media. Pelaksana pengumpul informasi adalah wartawan. Merekalah yang menentukan berbobot tidaknya media massa tempat mereka bekerja. Namun di balik itu, permasalahan yang menyangkut dunia kewartawanan masih banyak, di antaranya dinilai nyaris tidak beretika dan keluar dari koridor moral. Lantas timbul pertanyaan bagaimanakah pandangan para wartawan sendiri terhadap profesionalisme? Untuk menjawabnya, penulis membedahnya dengan pendekatan deskriptif tradisi kualitatif. Melalui wawancara mendalam dan pengamatan berperanserta kepada 30 wartawan yang bertugas di Kota Bandung dan sekaligus dijadikan informan. Hasilnya menunjukan, profesionalisme bisa dikategorikan ke dalam empat varian yaitu otonomi, komitmen, keahlian dan tanggung jawab. Namun saat hendak menjalankan varian tersebut di lapangan, terganjal aspek-aspek yang turut serta mewarnai saat wartawan bertugas.
Indonesia is one of the countries that cannot evade the development of digital communication enabling its society to access the Internet. As such, now people can get Internet access easier, so that they can connect to it anytime and anywhere. This advantage, to some journalistic platforms like newspaper, radio, and television, is used to run an online version of their services as well as to search, collect, process and publish news for the society. Yet, the development of online journalism becomes a threat and challenge for newspaper, radio, and television journalism consecutively. All journalism media that exist previously compete each other to become the first and foremost in providing information to the society, thus the competition among journalists cannot be avoided, especially in searching information from news sources. In responding to this, even some journalists are willing to violate the rules in order to get a reliable news source. From this, it emerges a question what are the communication patterns applied between Indonesian journalists and the news sources seen from the eyes of the journalists? To answer this question, the researcher conducted the present study applying the qualitative approach. The results demonstrated that the patterns of communication done can be included into five categories such as mutualism, parasitism, commensalism, epigonism, and neutralism.
Local languages which are also referred as mother tongue should be attached to every child as individual. The re-orientation of language due to global influences should not mean forgetting the local language. Globalization and traditions can run simultaneously so that millennial generations are not only proficient in foreign languages, but also understand in using their local languages. This is a communication and culture research. The purpose of this study was to determine the millennials assumptions about local languages and the teaching approaches needed. An integrated teaching approach is needed so that it can restore the millennials’ interest and confidence in speaking their local languages. This research used a descriptive qualitative method with interview techniques, involving millennial generation from Jakarta, West Java and Lampung Provinces. The results of the study show that some of the millennials can speak their local languages but not as active speakers. There are two major obstacles that prevent the millennials to speak their local languages, namely internal and external factors. Internal factor that prevents them from speaking their local languages is family, and the external factors include peers, environment and technology. To encourage the use of local language, the government has issued Regional Regulations (PERDA) so that local languages can be used by daily life such as in schools. In addition, equality communication model can be used in teaching local languages, that include seriousness, openness, acceptance, and flexible teaching This approach is supported by binding local government regulations that require the use of local languages in a variety of contexts, including the language of instruction in education.
The media has a role in changing of the views, attitudes, and behavior of people, groups, organizations, cultures and social systems. The media able to construct events in the field. Therefore, the media can be used for various purposes, including radicalism and terrorism publishing by certain parties. Radicalism and terrorism message can be the credo in society, so it is can be the threat to comfort and national resilience. If the state ideology is not sturdy, it will have an impact on decreased of national resilience. The question is, how the media role in spreading and dispel of radicalism? To answer the question, researchers dissected by using qualitative approach, phenomenology tradition. The result shows, radicalism and terrorism through media able to change of human knowledge, feeling and behavior.
