Solving the problem of plastic pollution is a priority for all of mankind. A significant part of all plastic waste is recyclable and reusable. However, not every method of recycling and reusing plastic is cost-effective. The aim of the study is to justify the economic efficiency of the construction and operation of a plastic recycling plant in the city of Kazan (Russian Federation). When performing the calculations, the discounted method for efficiency assessment of investment projects was used. The method involves the calculation of several efficiency criteria: NPV, IRR, PBP, PI. The study justifies the economic efficiency of the plant construction project based on the calculated indexes: NPV (net present value of the project) is 182 million rubles, IRR is 41.6 %. As a result of risk modeling, it was found out that the greatest impact on the net present value of the project is made by an increase in the discount rate. Moreover, the project is highly resistant to a possible reduction in the price and volume of sales, growth in current and investment expenses. Putting the results into practice opens up potential for solving the complex task of saving natural resources, expanding the local raw material base for the production of building materials, and disposing waste having a long decomposition period, more specifically plastic waste.
The relevance of the studied problem is due to the activation of the processes of integration and globalization of business, scientific and educational relations, as well as the expansion of international cooperation, accompanied by an increase in the volume of communications in various professional fields. Scientific communication, both oral and written, has become an integral part of higher education and scientific activity. Analyzing and processing up-to-date international educational and scientific information to build new scientific ideas using the skills and abilities of correct translation has actualized the need for research. The study discusses the problems of translating construction terminology from English into Russian. The goal of the article is to analyze various ways of translating synonyms, antonyms, homonyms in construction. We used methods of analysis, processing, generalization and systematization of scientific works to get a broader view of the problem and consider it from different angles. Ways to overcome the problems discussed were proposed. The article may be of interest to teachers of English and students of non-linguistic universities.
Readability formulas play a significant role in the process of text design for academic purposes. Nowadays formulas are digitalized that makes their implementation easy and convenient. Formulas are designed for different languages and are aimed at dealing with texts of different genres. In the article, we evaluate readability of academic texts, which are in the textbook “English for Engineers”. This book is recommended by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation for all technical Universities. Readability indices evaluation is performed with online tool Coh-Metrix. The tool suggests three readability indices obtained by means of three formulas: Flesch-Kincaid Grade Score, Flesch Reading Ease and Coh-Metrix L2 Reading Index. The Pearson correlation clearly demonstrates the absence of readability indices decrease from the first text in the book, which is considered to be the most readable to the last one that should be the less readable. By the way, Pearson correlation illustrates strong correlation between Flesch-Kincaid and Coh-Metrix L2 readability indices.
Fundamentals of materials represent a core subject at engineering universities dealing with various construction materials. The study of the discipline and the acquiring of knowledge demand a properly designed manual. Apart from content, manual authors should pay attention to the way they compose the text. Different tools are applied to assess the quality of a manual (its difficulty, complexity, readability). Readability formulae play a significant role in the sphere. Dealing with quantitative parameters of a text (the length of sentences, the length of words and others), readability formulae are able to predict the level of text readability and relate the text to a potential reader in respect to their age and academic level. Flesch-Kincaid Readability Level formula is chosen to analyze two manuals: one comes in the English language, the other – in Russian. The idea is to check how readable the texts of both manuals are. 17 English and 17 Russian texts are taken for the analysis. Pearson correlation is applied to illustrate whether the manuals demonstrate decrease or increase of the readability level of texts throughout the books.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
