Experimenting is a basic skill that science students must have. Experimental activities are generally carried out in the laboratory. But by using a smartphone, many experiments can be done outside the laboratory. This research is an example of an experiment using a smartphone that can be carried out outside the laboratory. This study aims to measure the coefficient of marbles restitution through a simple experiment assisted by a smartphone. Marbles are dropped from a certain height, the Phyphox application on a smartphone will record experimental data through a sound sensor. Experimental data recorded through a smartphone is used to analyze the coefficient of restitution and mechanical energy of marble during a collision with the floor. The experimental results show that smartphones can be used to determine the coefficient of restitution and mechanical energy as an experimental tool. We hope that this experiment will be an alternative method for lecturers or physics teachers to demonstrate bouncing objects to determine the coefficient of restitution and mechanical energy loss.
This community service activity aims at socializing the implementation of character education to families in Sebauk community and training families in Sebauk community on how to implement character education. The approach was socialization and implementation through lecture, discussion, and training the family members. The result of this activity was the increase of knowledge, understanding, skills, and attitudes of Sebauk community about the eighteen character values that must be implemented in educating children in each Sebauk family.
This study aimed to determine the effect of using proteus as a simulation model to improve students’ readiness and process skills in digital electronics experiment. The research design is experimental research using pretest-posttest group design. The sample is 40 students who were divided in experiment class and control class. The instruments used for data collection were questionnaires and observation sheets. The instrument is used to determine the readiness and process skills in laboratory experiment. Hypothesis testing is using MANOVA statistical analysis techniques. The results showed that the use of proteus as a practical simulation model was quite effective to increase the readiness and process skills of students in conducting digital electronics experiment. The gain value is 0.59 for readiness and 0.57 for student’s process skills. The results of this study have implications for practical activities and learning in the classroom. Experiment activities can be carried out properly and smoothly.
Newton’s second law can be demonstrated by classical mechanical experiments, one of which is using the Atwood machine. Atwood machines consist of two weights suspended by a rope and connected by a pulley. In this study, an Atwood machine experiment was carried out, where the smartphone was placed on one of the loads, so that the vertical acceleration of the motion system could be measured easily using an acceleration sensor. We also consider the effect of pulley rotation which is usually missed from previous studies. By deriving the second law equation of Newton on rotational and translational motion, we can get the relationship between the system acceleration and the gravitational acceleration of the earth. The results of the earth’s gravitational acceleration obtained, compared with the results of the experiment using a stopwatch (conventional method), and with the value of the standard earth gravitational acceleration at that place. Earth’s gravitational acceleration from the experiment using a smartphone is closer to the standard earth gravitational acceleration value than using a stopwatch. So, in this experiment, the use of a smartphone acceleration sensor contributes to enhance a conventional demonstration of classical mechanics experiments.
Sudah seharusnya fisika dipelajari dengan cara menyenangkan. Cara penyampaian materi akan sangat berpengaruh terhadap proses dan hasil pembelajaran Fisika. Namun fakta yang ditemui dilapangan pelajaran Fisika sangat membosankan bagi mahasiswa pendidikan Biologi. Sehingga motivasi mahasiswa saat belajar Fisika sangat rendah. Padahal pelajaran Fisika sangat dibutuhkan oleh mahasiswa Pendidikan Biologi karena Mahasiswa pendidikan Biologi akan melaksanakan Praktek Lapangan di SMP yang mana pelajaran IPA SMP sudah berbentuk keterpaduan. Jadi, sangat penting sekali bagi mahasiswa Pendidikan Biologi memahami mata kuliah Fisika. Oleh karena itu dalam penelitian ini dibuat Lembar Kerja Mahasiswa (LKM) berbantuan games pada mata kuliah Fisika program studi pendidikan Biologi untuk meningkatkan motivasi belajar mahasiswa.
