Abstract. This article presents the findings of a qualitative study conducted in English Department of Pekalongan University in 2018. The study aimed at revealing students’ and teachers’ perceptions about the importance and the meanings of independent learning particularly in their language learning. However this article only reports the interview results with fourteen students. The findings signal the students’ positive perceptions about independent learning. All students considered independent learning as important to improve their mastery of English. They also presented various reasons on the importance of doing independent learning. Interestingly, while all students reported the importance of doing independent learning, they described independent learning with a range of meanings. This suggests that independent learning means different thing for different students. Among the meanings they give to independent learning covers: 1) individual effort to improve the language competence, 2) individuals’ learning habits, 3) independent learning activities, 4) self-evaluation activity, and 5) self-reflection activity. Pembelajaran daring masa pandemi Covid-19 mengalami kendala terutama di daerah dengan infrastruktur komunikasi yang masih minim. Kesulitan akses sinyal internet menjadi halangan paling dominan. Oleh karena itu, teknologi berbasis modular luar jarring (luring) sangat diperlukan. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini betujuan untuk membantu guru menggunakan Flip PDF sebagai alternative modul digital yang lebih menarik dan dapat digunakan secara luring untuk pembelajaran pada masa pandemic. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di PKBM An Nur yang terletak di Paninggaran Kabupaten Pekalongan. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dalam waktu 4 bulan yang mencakup tahap persiapan, pelaksanaan dan evaluasi program. Metode yang digunakan dalam Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah metode ceramah, demonstrasi, diskusi dan tanya jawab. Kegiatan ini bermanfaat bagi guru PKBM yang masih kesulitan untuk membuat e-modul yang sesuai dengan aturan pemerintah, kearifan local, menarik dan interaktif. Dengan e-modul, pembelajaran mandiri menjadi lebih menarik, kaya akan sumber belajar dan tidak terhambat dengan ketiadaan sinyal internet.
This research reports the findings of a narrative inquiry aiming at revealing the lecturers' perceptions about the meaning and importance of independent learning for improving students' mastery of English. This research involved nine lecturers of English Education program at the Faculty of Teachers' Training and Education, Pekalongan University. The lecturers were interviewed about their views of independent learning. The findings suggest that all of the respondents agreed on the importance of independent learning. However, in terms of the meaning of independent learning, the lecturers suggest a various definition of independent learning, signaling that their understanding on the concept of independent learning is not similar which may result in different practices of giving independent learning tasks to students.
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh ketidakpastian berakhirnya pandemi Covid-19 yang berdampak pada ancaman siswa menjadi putus belajar dan menurunnya kualitas pembelajaran. Oleh karena itu, sekolah harus selalu siap siaga dengan sistem pendidikan yang baru yang berbeda dengan sistem pendidikan sebelumnya. Sistem pendidikan sekolah Tanggap pandemic (Resilience Education System) menjadi salah satu solusi tepat untuk penyelenggaraan pendidikan di masa pandemic dan masa pasca pandemic. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian evaluasi yang bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan kesiapan dari sekolah menuju Resillence Education Sistem terutama dalam aspek pembelajaran dan memberikan rekomendasi kepada sekolah dan pemangku kebijakan untuk mengetahui peta kesiapsiagaan sekolah di masa pandemic dan pasca pandemic. Seting penelitian di SMA negeri di Kabupaten Pekalongan. Subjek penelitiannya adalah para pimpinan sekolah yang diambil sebagai sampling. Data dikumpulkan dengan cara kuisioner dan interview dan hasil dari pengumpulan data dianalisis secara kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sekolah belum cukup siap untuk mengelola sistem pembelajaran daring terutama dalam peningkatan keterlibatan aktif dalam pembelajaran daring, pelibatan keluarga dan masyarakat dalam pembelajaran daring, dan peningkatan literasi digital dan pembelajaran mandiri.
<p>The characteristics of children's behavior in the millennial era are marked by a strong mastery of digital media, so how do parents determine parenting to build a generation that does not accept the bad effects of the digital era, but uses all media wisely and for positive purposes. Family education is an effort to empower families to be able to exercise control over existing resources and active participation in character formation. The condition of the Covid-19 pandemic has forced families to be more attentive to the process of their children participating in their learning activities at school. Many families in Bandengan Village have difficulty guiding their children in learning activities, especially learning assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic. The majority of the people of Bandengan Village earn as casual laborers, small fishermen and factory workers. By implementing the <em>FKIP Mengajar</em> and mentoring program for independent study groups in Bandengan Village, it is hoped that it can help the people of Bandengan Village in the field of education, especially the problem of learning difficulties experienced by teenagers. The method used in this service is active participation and mentoring. This strategy can be summarized as follows: 1. Grouping of Adolescents according to School Age 2. Learning Assistance (school materials, Multi Literacy, and general skills,) 3. Formation of Independent Study Group 4. Independent learning group mentoring. The synergy between universities and the community is needed in a real form. FKIP Pekalongan University provides solutions to problems in the learning assistance of parents for their children. Independent learning group mentoring is a tangible form of solving learning mentoring problems in the community.</p><p><strong>Keywords : </strong>independent learning, family education, mentoring.</p>
