Preparation and X-Ray Diffraction Characterization of the Kambaldaite-Like Sodium Cobalt Carbonate Hydroxide Hydrate, Na2Co8(CO3)6(OH)6. times.6 H2O. -The novel title compound is prepared by reaction of Co(OH)NO3· H2O with a saturated aqueous solution of NaHCO3 at room temperature. According to the powder XRD data the compound crystallizes in the hexagonal space group P63 with Z = 1 and is isotypic with kambaldaite, Na2Ni8(CO3)6(OH)6·6 H2O. The structure is built-up from chains of (Co(1)(OH)2(OCO2)4) octahedra six of which are connected via bridging CO2 groups and (Co(2)(OH)3(OCO2)3) octahedra, thus forming tunnels which accomodate chains of (Na (H2O)6) octahedra sharing opposite faces. -(PETROV, K.; MIRTCHEVA, E.; MARTIN DE VIDALES, J.
