Crisis in 2020 is the impact of unexpected Covid-19 spreading all around the world in which period all social and economic aspects are forced to slowing down or even temporarily stopped. In almost all countries in the world, only few sectors are allowed to run the business normally. The sectors are mainly business offering basic needs such as grocery stores, certain food and beverage, and medical. The phenomena attack blatantly hospitality sectors and it must be faced by the stakeholders of the industry. In Indonesia, hospitality industry does suffer. The human centric characteristic of the industry requires interactions between people. Human interactions are well explained as the core activities in tourism industry in the old normal while it is to be avoided during the new normal of Covid-19. Business owners and managers fight against the condition which finally pushed them hardly to unfortunate decisions for the human capital of the industry and for many other strategic issues. The crisis is present and brings a huge impact to the hospitality sector that includes hotel and restaurant business. This study is to describe the picture of how this sector in Jakarta area overcomes the pandemic situation and until what extent the management is capable to handle. A qualitative research is conducted with narrative approach, by empathising to the human capital in the sector using grounded theory approach. Challenges are encountered by the hospitality practitioners and each one of them are trying to survive with their own way.
The MICE industry in Indonesia has been growing fast in Indonesia. There are so many different ways to organize events from the planning to the evaluation. However, the determination of venue remains a very interesting issue to be studied. The success of event organization may be based on the venue selection. This study is aimed to examine the venue management in the special event management of the First and Second Rencontre Entreprise-Alumni (REA). The objective of the study is to find out the importance of the venue selection in the impact of the success of the event. Thus, selecting an event venue will require identifying physical resources present in the location. The method of the research is descriptive using the participant observation and in-depth interview as data collection procedure. The sampling design is judgment sample with the most productive sample who are the exhibitors who was in the first only or the second only of REA, and in both events. The research gives a quite significant result to the event owner to improve the next event organization. All aspects must have been well thought including the attendees management to which the venue selection influenced the most. The event owner was taking the most important part in the venue selection that was very lightly taking the attendees’ needs into consideration. The transportation would also take the biggest part of attendees’ problem in accessing the venue.
Pada era informasi abad ke-21saat ini, bermunculan berbagai platform peer-to-peer, yang secara kolektif dikenal juga sebagai platform-based economy atau ekonomi berbasis platform, yang sekarang dimanfaatkan oleh banyak kalangan di seluruh dunia terutama untuk industry akomodasi dalam bentuk homestay berbasis dalam jaringan atau daring. Bagi khalayaknya, platform ini memberikan kemudahan akomodasi untuk berwisata ke daerah yang menarik untuk dieksplorasi terutama untuk wisata rural. Sebagai penyedia jasa akomodasi, tentunya kompetisi dengan hotel-hotel yang bersifat komersil sangat kuat. Fenomena yang ada di berbagai negara di dunia menunjukkan, platform ini menjadi ancaman untuk para pengelola hotel yang tentunya menyediakan kamar dengan harga yang lebih tinggi dari homestay berbasis daring. Dampaknya tentu tidak hanya pada strategi penjualan, melainkan juga pada strategi komunikasi. Ancaman platform tersebut menjadi disruptif di mana ancaman ini dapat mengubah pola pengelolaan bisnis akomodasi karena aturan yang berbeda dan dapat membuat para pengelola hotel berpikir keras untuk mengubah strategi komunikasi hotel mereka atau tidak sama sekali. Ketersediaan platform bebas biaya dalam rantai jaringan hotel memberikan harapan bagi para pengelola hotel untuk mengeksplorasi kemungkinan dan mengantisipasi disrupsi yang dirasakan.
