BackgroundThe purpose of this study was to compare the sealing ability of MTA Fillapex, Apatite Root Canal Sealer and AH26 sealers.Material and MethodsThe present in vitro study was carried out on 142 extracted single-rooted human mature teeth. The teeth were randomly divided into three experimental groups (n=44) and two control groups (n=5). Three root canal sealers were MTA Fillapex, Apatite Root Canal Sealer and AH26. The teeth in the control groups were either filled with no sealer or made completely impermeable. The root canals were prepared and obturated with gutta-percha and one of the sealers. The teeth were sterilized with ethylene oxide gas prior to the bacterial leakage assessment using Enterococcus faecalis. Leakage was evaluated every 24 hours for 90 days. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistical methods and chi-squared test. If the data were significant, a proper post hoc test was used. Statistical significance was set at P<0.05.ResultsThe positive control specimens exhibited total bacterial penetration whilst the negative control specimens showed no evidence of bacterial penetration. At the end of the study, the analysis of microleakage with chi-squared test showed no significant differences between the experimental groups (P<0.05). The results of chi-squared test analyzing the pair-wise differences between the groups considering the numerical values for leakage day indicated the lowest leakage with AH26 and the highest with Apatite root sealer.ConclusionsAccording to the results of the present study, sealing ability of AH26 was significantly higher than that of MTA Fillapex and Apatite Root Canal Sealer. Key words:Mineral Trioxide aggregate, root canal obturation, dental seal.
SUMMARYObjective: To compare clinical and bacteriologic responses to intramuscular benzathine penicillin G (BPG) and single dose of amoxicillin in Group A streptococcal (GAS) pharyngitis. Design: This study included 571 children from 6 to 15 years old age, with pharyngitis, who were admitted to 45 elementary and guidance schools from 7 regions of Education Organization in North-East of Iran, Mashhad. They were screened for enrollment and if he/she presented pharyngitis with clinical criteria of sore throat, erythema, exudate and tender or enlarged anterior cervical lymph nodes. Exclusion criteria included reports of antibiotic use, negative throat culture for GAS and history of allergy to the drugs. Clinical and bacteriologic responses to BPG and once daily orally amoxicillin were considered and compared. Results: In the amoxicillin group, treatment failure was more than the penicillin group (18.9% vs. 6.4%, respectively) but the difference was not statistically significant (p < 0.05). Both drugs were significantly effective in reducing pharyngitis manifestations but penicillin was significantly more effective in reducing exudate than amoxicillin. Conclusion: Our study was in line with studies comparing the two drugs. The results show that once-daily therapy with amoxicillin is as effective as intramuscular benzathine penicillin G for the treatment of GAS pharyngitis, but penicillin was significantly more effective in reducing exudate and concurrent signs vs. amoxicillin.
Hypothesis: Rhinoplasty is one of the most common aesthetic surgeries. The aim of the study was to evaluate facial proportions and patient satisfaction with the appearance of their nose after rhinoplasty compared to preoperatively. Methods: This crosssectional study was conducted at Islamic Azad University, Mashhad Branch. Eighty-two candidates with indications for primary cosmetic rhinoplasty were selected. Facial proportions and patient satisfaction with their nasal appearance were evaluated before and 6 months after rhinoplasty. Patient satisfaction was assessed using the Rhinoplasty Outcome Evaluation questionnaire. Results: Eighty-two patients referred for cosmetic rhinoplasty (13.4% men and 86.6% women) with a mean age of 28.5 (6.4) years underwent open rhinoplasty and were evaluated. Facial proportions, including nasofrontal, nasolabial, and nasomental ratios increased significantly, while the nasofacial ratio, nasal tip projection, columellar show, alar base, and nasal length reduced significantly after rhinoplasty (P < .05). Furthermore, patient satisfaction with the appearance of their nose increased significantly after surgery (P < .001). Conclusion: All of the facial proportions changed significantly following rhinoplasty. Although patient satisfaction with nose appearance increases significantly after the operation, there is no significant association between patient satisfaction and facial proportions. As beauty is a subjective, relative and qualitative issue, facial proportions may not be a proper tool to determine facial beauty and predict the satisfaction rate following rhinoplasty.
In the case of meningitis with negative CSF culture and Gram stain, diagnosis can be made on CSF parameters, clinical and laboratory findings and suspicion of meningitis. Therefore, a clinical prediction rule to classify risk for bacterial meningitis on evaluation of CSF parameters in any region should be established. More regional trials are needed to enhance the probability of diagnosis according to CSF parameters.
The purpose of this study was to look at research trends in the application of CTM in animal nutrition in order to identify current and emerging challenges, as well as to examine the intellectual structure of the subject. The intellectual structure of CTM was examined using keyword and reference analysis. The research community includes all research and review articles published in journals indexed in the Web of Science database during the years 1990–2022. The results showed that the terms zinc, co-occurring 331 times, performance (324 times), and copper 216 (times) were the main and hotspots of research in the field of chelate. The data suggest that the most important keywords during the study period were zinc, copper, pig, bovine, metabolism, and bioavailability. The terms health, muscle, beef, trace elements, and dietary supplements represent emerging topics in CTM, as research began to focus on these areas during the years 2017–2022. The country with the greatest number of published articles was the United States of America. This bibliometric analysis showed that countries are focusing on the effects of CTM on the health and musculature of cattle through dietary supplementation with trace elements. According to the identified hot and emerging topics, this research can serve as a roadmap for a global comprehensive scientific plan and policy.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
