Gastrointestinal parasitic infections cause economic losses in large ruminant's production including swamp buffalo in tropical areas. The basic epidemiological data and impact of the infections in swamp buffaloes in Indonesia are very limited. A cross sectional study was conducted to measure the prevalence, to identify the risk factor, and to evaluate the impact of gastrointestinal parasites infection on production performance (BCS and girth) of swamp buffalo in five Sentra Peternakan Rakyat (SPR) in Banten Province, Indonesia. A total of 340 fecal samples were collected and examined microscopically using modified McMaster technique. The risk factors scrutinized in this study were sex, age, farming managements, and agroclimate. Infection was found in 128 buffaloes (37.65%) consisted of Nematodes, i.e. Toxocara (0.88%), Strongyles (8.24%), Trichuris (5.29%), Strongyloides (2.94%), and Coccidia of Eimeria (30%). Age of buffaloes was the only significant risk factor for the infection. The highest infection rate was occurred in the group of pre-weaned calves (63.83%) and the lowest was found in the adults (29.66%). Pre-weaned calve group was 8.519 and 8.435 times more likely to be infected with nematodes and protozoa, respectively. The Spearman correlation test showed that the girth was negatively low-correlated and significantly to the EPG of Toxocara vitulorum, the number of protozoa oocyst as well as the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasitic infections. BCS was not related to the infections. In conclusion, low prevalence of gastrointestinal parasitic infections potentially reduce the production performance of swamp buffaloes in the SPRs of Banten Province, Indonesia.
Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an endemic disease and it’s still a health problem in Ternate City. DHF is reported to occur every year and spread throughout the Districts in the Ternate Island region. Studies with epidemiological approaches according to people, places, and times that describe the incidence of DHF within a period of 10 years need to be known as an evaluation in the control program. The variables examined in this study were gender, age, number of deaths, the incidence of DHF in the subdistrict, and endemicity status. The results showed that male families suffered more DHF than female with 507 male sufferers while 411 female sufferers. The majority of DHF in the age group of 5-14 years with 507 people. The number of deaths resulting from dengue fever cases in 10 years was 31 people. The highest DHF incidence rate was in South Ternate sub-district with 379 cases and the lowest was in Ternate Island sub-district with 15 cases. Endemicity status in 2019 is endemic nine villages, sporadic 45 and seven potential villages. The conclusion of this study is the incidence of dengue hemorrhagic fever is more in men, with the age group of 5-14 years. DHF occurs throughout the year in all districts within the Ternate City area.

Biodiversitas 22: 5350-5357. Aedes albopictus, an aggressive, strong, anthropophilic, exophilic, and exophagic mosquito, was an important vector of dengue fever, chikungunya and yellow fever; it became public health problem all over the world. Larvae of Ae. albopictus live in water-filled various types of containers. The study aimed to measure habitat characteristics and the density of larvae of Ae. albopictus in Curug Subdistrict, Tangerang District. This research was conducted in seven endemic villages of Curug Subdistrict, from January to July 2018. Mosquito larvae were collected in 100 houses in every village, the total samples were 700 houses, and observed all outdoor water containers. In this study, 2990 containers consisted of 1545 (51.67%) controllable containers and 1445 (48.33%) disposable containers. Containers positive for Ae. albopictus were 1320 containers from 597 (45.23%) controllable containers and 723 (54.77%%) disposable containers. The larval density indices were 44.96% (Container Index, CI) and 188.57% (Breteau Index, BI). The analysis Maya index in seven villages in Curug Subdistrict showed that 72.57% belonged to the moderate category, so that the area had the potential as breeding sites of Ae. albopictus. Habitat characteristics of Ae. albopictus in Curug Subdistrict was mostly in disposable containers outside the house.
Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is a contagious disease caused by the dengue virus and transmitted through the bite of Aedes aegypti. Information regarding larval habitat is very important for the control of Ae. aegypti. The studied aims to determine the density of Ae. aegypti larvae and maya index in Ternate City. The research conducted in 20 urban villages in Ternate City for 5 months. Survey method used was single larva and any water reservoirs were found larvae of Aedes spp. will be taken as a sample. The purpose of this study to measure the density of Ae. aegypti larvae and maya index in Ternate City. The parameters calculated were Container Index (CI), Breteau Index (BI), House Index (HI), Density Figure (DF), and Maya Index. Based on maya index, 1.990 houses in 20 urban villages in Ternate City included in the medium risk category (78.64%) with CI (43.95%), HI (84.99%) and BI (228.91). Density figure in the high category (DF = 8.7). The study concluded that most of households in the area of study still have the potential for transmission of dengue virus infection.
